JR Smith

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Smith is 29, but in a way hasn't he already been molded? He's used to coming off the bench and won't complain about it. He's got his issues, but I see no reason to assume he won't accept the role the team is going to give him. If he can hit threes consistently, he'll be mostly helpful to our offense.

He's going to take some bad shots. That's just who he is. Most of us accepted that Dion would take a couple of those a night even when he played well, and Smith isn't going to be any different. Still, Smith was a valuable player on good teams in the past. We can only cross our fingers and hope he'll be reinvigorated playing for a team that has a chance to contend now.

He is streaky as hell. This is the same revisionist grad is greener bs that led to Kevin love being called an above average defender.

Smith had plantar fascitis, either in addition or causing him to lose a step. I guess we hope the Cuyahaga water has some kind of rejuvenating properties. There is no upside here and unlike Dion he doesn't even play part time defense.

His attitude is legendary. Mike Miller is going to have to be the chemistry guru.

The idea that Smith at 28 is going to be easier to mold than Dion at 22 seems like wishful thinking to me.

It's already been stated, but Smith's game doesn't need to be "molded". Smith is already a 6th man, scorer off the bench and is perfectly happy with that role.

Dion never has been and has shown nothing to suggest he will be happy with or will be willing to accept that role.. at least not here.

OK. I'll be the one telling you I told you so. If you let J.R run loose, the dream of him being a productive member of the team is over. Ever hear the saying, you gave someone an inch and they took a mile?
I'm with you Frank. You're going to get attacked post trade for holding such a position. Remember the Shaq trade? The Deng trade?

Folks want to believe their team knows what it's doing. Even if it doesnt have a clue.

Most role players are streaky. That's why they're role players. If you are able to play awesome consistently you're a star. I doubt anyone is expecting Smith to be incredible night in and night out, but if he can step onto the court and drain some threes and go off every now and then, he can be a worthwhile player for us and add some much-needed depth to our bench.

God please let this man fit with our team. We dont need bad JR Smith right now.

Who has any info on his defensive ability? Is he Kevin Love bad, average, or decent if he tries?

Kevin Love bad.

I think Smith will love playing with Love. I do not think he'll love playing with LeBron or Kyrie...

Well he only earned a staying spot 3 times to have it takes away 3 times. Everyone says he has been given all the opportunities, but having a new coach every year is not the picture of stability. He was mishandled from day one. What reason does anyone have to trust this organization as knowing what is best for him if they can't hire the right coach?

He doesn't play D at all... Think kyrie last year.

Wait, so JR is a drug addict because he likes to smoke weed? AND we've got the whole board whining he's going to ruin the team....

I'm pretty sure that 90% of you haven't watched JR Smith play basketball and are going solely on what the media reports.

I'd agree with this. 90% of people haven't watched him play. Including those who are blindly heaping praise on thismove. But yeah I haven't watched him this season but I did all of last season.

Smith is not an upgrade over waiters.

He takes bad shots and is a defensive liability.

Shumpert is intriguing but coming off injuries one of which is debilitating.

I see no way we come out of this ahead. At best it's a lateral move and at worst we lost value.

Hope I'm wrong.
