I am pretty excited about this move. Nobody is expecting Perkins to be in "Champion Celtics" form. He needs to come and play between 10-20 minutes per night (depending on fouls and injuries) and just be a mean SOB. He is physical defensively and is a pretty good rim protector. I think against faster, smaller teams he may play less, and I'm fine with that, but against physical big men, Perkins will get his time.
Buyout players hardly qualify fot their own safari?
We still don't have have the flamboyant guy that the female fans can relate to. Example: in the middle...Well Griffin is certainly crossing out a lot of items in the standard checklist for what title contenders needs outside of the superstar core:
-rim protector - check (Moz)
-irrational confidence guy - check (JR)
-defensive stopper/3&D guy - check (Shumpert)
-thug/enforcer - check (Perkins)
He's actually been a very effective rim protector even in recent years...
He was 2nd in the league last year in Opp FG% at the Rim at 42.6% and he's 5th among big men this year at 45.3%. Those numbers are helped by having Serge Ibaka playing with him but he's still up there with guys like Gobert, Bogut, Hibbert, Howard, Aldridge and Noel. You don't see those other guys getting their teammates up there so obviously Perk has something to do with.
Ah, much better...WellGriffinLeGM is certainly crossing out a lot of items in the standard checklist for what title contenders needs outside of the superstar core
