Notice LeBron tripping Brooks with his right foot there! LMAO!!!

Kyrie is a well-oiled scoring machine. LeBron has helped turn this kid into a complete offensive monster. Off the ball, on the ball. Isolation, pick and roll, running around screens, cutting, throwing lobs. This kid is going to explode into the upper echelon of the NBA's elite this playoff run. He's going to show us some special things, and LeBron has spent the entire season gearing him up for this moment...and Kyrie seems to be peaking at the perfect time. I'm so excited to watch this kid do his thing in the playoffs. It's going to be special.

I was listening to the Zach Lowe podcast, and he had an interesting discussion about All-NBA teams. He basically said he enjoys voting for All-NBA because it involves more in depth analysis as opposed to MVP, DPOY, ROY, etc.

It got me thinking about Kyrie's chances for 3rd team All NBA at guard. 1st team will be Curry and Harden, 2nd team will be Paul and Westbrook. I think that leaves 3 viable candidates for 3rd team

Klay Thompson
Kyrie Irving
Jimmy Butler

I think Klay makes it. I also think due to Butler missing some time and the Cavs (hopefully) having a better record than the Bulls (plus Kyrie's 57 pts on national TV vs SA has to stick in the minds of voters), Kyrie nabs the 2nd guard spot.

Kyrie is better than Klay or Butler. Kyrie scores more points, has more assists, has a better PER than either of them.

LeBron better be careful or Kyrie may steal his Finals MVP :chuckle:

But seriously, Kyrie could absolutely get MVP. And LeBron probably would not be happy about it.

I'm not saying Kyrie isn't better than those guys, but a significant amount of their value is tied to their defense. Defense has to be taken into consideration.

Kyrie is still a horrific defender roughly 75% of the time and he gives up a lot of his scoring right back on the defensive end. Frankly, his regression on defense since mid-season is worrisome. He became complacent just funneling guards into Timo, and now he barely even tries staying in front of anyone. Scrubs like George Hill and MCW last night straight up abused him on the block and got anything they wanted, to the point where the Cavs had to double or hide Kyrie. If he plays like this against the Hawks in the playoffs the Cavs are in deep shit.

Lets not act like Kyrie is the only one here. The entire team has half-assed it against mediocre opponents the last few weeks. If that continues we won't even see the Hawks (hint: it won't continue).

Ironically, I'd say Love's defense of all people has been surprisingly good. It's a flip from the beginning of the season when Kyrie seemed to make a big jump on that end and Love was struggling on D

Well, this is the Kyrie thread, and he's by far the worst defender in the rotation. The only other guy who really dogs it out there on the regular is Lebron, but that's more like 50% of the time, and when he's on he's still a defensive force. Lebron will obviously take it to another level when the playoffs arrive.

When Kyrie flips the defensive switch, which has seemingly been in 'off' for over a month now, he goes from among worst in the league defense to around average. Even though everyone on the team falls into laziness and sloppy rotations at times, especially recently, no one else in the rotation plays as listlessly as he does defensively. Kyrie's lack of effort and impact is on another level. Teams attack him repeatedly until the Cavs adjust. No one else gets this treatment.

I can pretty much guarantee that Kyrie will play better defense in the playoffs than he has all season...

Not sure why you guys would think otherwise, we've seen that he's capable.

To be honest, I don't see it. As good as Kyrie is, I can't imagine any scenario where Lebron won't get the MVP if we win the finals. He has the storyline of the return and redemption behind him and he's already playoff tested. Kyrie will have his chance to get Finals MVP when he's the one leading the Cavs years from now.

If Kyrie goes off for 50+ a couple times he could get it. I can certainly imagine some scenarios where he could get it.

None of that matters. The best player doesn't always win MVP...and Kyrie has the two highest scoring games this season. To claim it's impossible for him to win MVP seems foolish to me.
