ECF: Cavs 4 - Hawks 0

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I kind of hope we can find mins for Shawn Marion or even Mike Miller.

Not sure these heavy mins are good for Shump. He's always looking like he's about to hurt something. He plays so hard out there, but you've got to protect him from himself as well. Kind of like with Andy.

Wish we could find 10 mins or so for other guys.
I dunno Gus. Shump has an excellent motor and he is so consistent defensively. It's just so hard to dip into Marion/Miller without demonstrable evidence of what ISN'T working with the strategy. Marion is rusty and struggles from outside, while Miller's lateral speed has diminished quite a bit. If we hit a pants-crap moment or we are blowing them out at home, these guys and Perk might see the court. Other than that, I think that either way their weaknesses will be quickly exploited at this juncture and I deem it too risky.

It's a tough call in basketball to reduce minutes to protect a player. I see the logic in football, and it certainly is logical that one has a higher chance to get injured when tired (and obviously when playing), but I think this is a "back burner concern" and we don't see what you hope for, and I am ok with that.

This is the sort of play that stays with you. Like, forever.

I think this is being underplayed honestly. For how much of 'team' basketball Atlanta plays that was one of the most gutless and selfish plays I have ever seen. I believe it was a 4 point game at that point, and Korver was in position to take a charge. But the "all-star" chose the good of himself over the good of his team. I think this could definitely hurt the chemistry for Atlanta when you see a guy who is an "all-star" that isn't willing to sell out for the team, and to so blatantly run from the play. If I'm a Hawks player I would have a hard time being in the same room as Korver right now.

Something Kyrie and LeBron always say is go to battle. I would go to battle with these guys. You think Delly would pull that bitch move? Love? ANYONE? I highly doubt it. I don't think anyone would want to go to battle with Korver after that. Just a complete gutless play, hope it affects them in game 2 somehow.

I will probably be the only one but I fully understood why Korver didn't take the charge. Korver was moving in and not in the right place to take the charge. It would have most probably ended up with a foul on Korver or and-1. Not to mention, LeBron had already gained full speed and was about to rise and a collision there could have possibly injured not just Korver but LeBron as well. Its one thing taking a charge when LeBron is about to take off like Derrick Rose did last series and totally another to do it when he has gained his full speed!

Agreed with this. You are right to mention the injury risk for Lebron as well. I actually really hate it when people tackle other players rather than permit the hoop -- as Lebron likes to say, that is not a basketball play. How would people feel if Lebron gets knocked out of the playoffs on some player's bullshit attempt to keep his macho points up by undercutting him on the way to the hoop?

I just don't understand why we don't give Marion a little burn. He is a smart player, even if he is no longer a plus guy he won't get you in trouble if he is healthy, and near the end of the season he seemed to showed renewed athleticism.

Korver was not in LeBron's path. He would have had to take another step or two just to get in front of him. With how fast LeBron was moving, there was ZERO chance of Korver getting in the way to draw a charge. Like I said, the only way Korver was going to stop LeBron on that play would be to tackle him, and with LeBron's momentum, he likely would have blasted right through and gotten an and-1.

And to your point about Delly not playing ole defense, you're right. Delly would have tried to tackle him, like he does every opponent in the open court. But LeBron would have run through it and scored.

Calling Korver gutless because of that play is ridiculous.

LeBron was already full steam before he reached Korver and trying to get in the way of that would have only resulted in a defensive foul call and it would have put both players health at risk. LeBron may have ended up getting taken out of the playoffs if Korver had took that on, and yet people are insulting him for having the good sense not to do it. Even if it was likely for selfish reasons, I don't like to see any players putting their opponents at risk in order to make a play. That's a very cheap and frustrating thing which has resulted in so many playoff injuries over the years.

And I'm not saying Korver is actually a tough guy, or he isn't just a big puss, I'm just saying the example people are providing for this is ridiculous. No one should be stepping in front of James when he's got that much momentum going.

It's not about stepping in to take the charge. It's about him running out of the way like LeBron was going to roundhouse him on the way to the hoop.

This Korver shit is much ado about nothing. I can't wait for the game to start. Yes, he looked like a bitch and it's hilarious. Other than that, he made a bad play. He wouldn't have got the charge but a hard foul there makes LeBron earn it at the stripe. It might not have mattered, and he thought there was a chance that LBJ kicked that out, so in his split-second decision making, he decided to cover the kick out. Who cares?

If/when Demarre comes back, it will make it easier to hide Kyrie because he should be able to guard someone who is just has hobbled if not more so. I would think Demarre would play tomorrow if he can go at all because they definitely don't want to go down 0-2 at home. And that might work to our favor if Demarre is a liability, it might be better to have him on the floor rather than off. Either way, nobody has a prayer at stopping LeBron.

Biggest thing I'm worried about for game 2 is our own complacency. We can't be happy just getting 1 game like the Bulls were. Hawks are going to be fighting for their lives and playing like their backs are against the wall. They could come out and punch us in the mouth if we aren't ready.

Demarre won't be able to WALK tomorrow, much less play.

People were acting like it wasn't that bad today so I wasn't sure what is up. I heard he was questionable for game 2.

Could be a smokescreen. If it was truly hyperextended, it's hard to believe he will play tomorrow.

please stop listening to reports.

my favorite was when rachel nichols was giving a soundbyte about kyrie being 100% while he hobbled up the court.

everything is a smokescreen. the dude is not going to play.

I don't think anyone, on offense or defense, expected to find the Red Sea, post-Moses-and-his-staff. Where was the other big (besides Millsap)? Why was there no one to impede LBJ's path to the rim?

Next year, we'll be a better team than today and Indiana and Chicago and possibly Washington will be battling us for the East.
