Tendinitis is annoying. Of course, I don't have the close medical care Kyrie has, but I've been dealing with it for 6 months in my foot. When I was off my feet for a month it didn't bother me at all and doesn't bother me at all until I do the types of thing (various forms of exercise) that aggravate it... then it barks loudly. He was probably feeling good on it because he just couldn't simulate game conditions and once he did, it returned. Sounds pretty typical of it.

Seems like Kyrie needs to learn how to play in a way that he avoids aggravating it. If it's hard stops, then stop doing them. Maybe he just needs to be a spot up 3 guy who can go to more of a runner if there's a hard close out. Of course, it may be that the things aggravating are things he has to do, and if so, then he (and we) are outta luck.

My sense is that this is what happened last night. The "tweaking of the injury" is a bit of a cover-up, I think. Blatt's keeping things internal. It seemed like Kyrie wanted to go back in and was never called upon.

im pretty sure it was the third quarter but ky legit never ran the same after missing a shot. he immediately started jumping on one leg and was taken out almost immediately after iirc.

i think it was the awful and unnecessary pull up jumper

Or, umm, maybe the team had gotten up by so much that Blatt figured he was stealing time by letting him rest the rest of the game after he obviously tweaked the left knee on his drive and kick to Shump?

I realize the world is black helicopters and government-archived google searches, but maybe, in this case, it was just common sense.

Uh, a question here for any doctors, or those who like to play them on the internet.

Anyone have an idea why Kyrie doesn't get a cortisone shot? I had tendinitis in my knee that caused what's known as a "baker's cyst" behind the knee, and the doc gave me a shot of cortisone to calm it down. It worked long enough for the cyst to go down, though after a couple of months, the shot wore off and I still had the tendonitis.

I know those shots can do more harm than good in the long run, but anyone aware of any other reason why they're not going that route with Kyrie? I can understand avoiding them as a panacea, but I just wonder about a one-time use when the NBA title may be at stake.

And just to be clear, I'm not saying he should get a shot. Honestly just wondering.

I keep seeing people wanting to just rest him, but you do realize that Delly is literally the only backup point we have?

True, but given that LeBron plays point guard for our team a lot of the time, we could easily run out a lineup that features Smith and Shumpert as our guards and LeBron at the three.

My best friend is a Wizards fan. Does anyone have any decent ammunition that justifies Irving's All NBA selection over Wall's? I need to scorch him.

To me it was close. I can definitely see why Wizards fans would be pulling for Wall since he was the man on his team, and they was entirely dependent on him. Wall also averaged 10 assists per game - compared to Kyrie's 5.2 per game - and played better defense than Kyrie. Per RPM, he was better, as well.

However, Kyrie played for a team that had 7 more wins and ended the season by going 34-9. He also scored about 4 points per game more and was way more efficient in doing so (58% TS vs. 52% TS). Kyrie finished with more Win Shares than Wall (10.4 vs 7.8), a higher Net Rating (ORTG: 117, DRTG: 108 vs. ORTG: 105, DRTG: 102), and a higher PER (21.5 vs. 19.9).

So they both had good cases, in my opinion. Since Kyrie was on the team that won more games, it's not hard to see why they went with him instead, and I'm glad they did. :)

I was thinking the same thing.. but I learned that the swelling on both Kyrie's knee and foot is [or was prior to Wednesday's game] almost completely gone. Cortisone shots primary purpose is anti-inflammation and pain that comes with inflammation. If there's no inflammation, then cortisone shots won't do much.

Team doctors have also said Kyrie's injuries can't get any worse and there's no risk of long-term effects if he plays hard. So it seems his injuries are more psychological than physical at this point. And that's kind of disappointing because his play is noticeably suffering.

Time to man up more, Kyrie. As someone who battled persistent injuries for a couple years in the Army it is frustrating. One doubts oneself, and thinks one is letting everyone down. However, sometimes one has to adopt the mindset of acknowledging pain as a reminder that we are still alive and still fighting. Ignore the pain, the pain feels good; so much so when fucking the Goddamn Hawks. They can't stop you.

Fight, Kyrie, fight! FIIIGHT!!! You can rest in late June.

If Kyrie's injuries are just due to "general wear and tear", doesn't that make it likely this kind of thing will be an issue with him in the future?
No. Given proper rest and rehabilitation tendinitis will heal, if the cause is eliminated. In Kyrie's case I believe it has been stated the cause is overcompensation due to injuries on his other side. If and when those heal, the tendinitis will subside and he will be back to top form. Next year.
BTW, not an MD.

I'm getting similar saltiness from Chicago fans demanding Butler over Irving.

Sorry, but I wouldn't trade Kyrie for Wall or Butler. He has more talent that can't be taught than both and has shown he can play defense just as well when he's locked in.
