Matthew Dellavedova

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I... I can't do this. Done. Watch the fucking plays before you shove your misinformed opinions down everybody's throats. In fact, watch Delly for an entire season and not just 2 games before forming an opinion on him.

Take heart. 99.9% of the response Tweets were calling Greenberg and Jones incompetent.

i dont really think he's dirty but just thought this was funny

I'm surprised this hasn't been said yet. If Delly didn't propel himself backwards, he might've fell on Carroll's legs... who just suffered a knee sprain. If that happens, you'd get the same people bitching about Delly being dirty because he didn't try to miss Carroll's knees.

Can anyone recall this type of blatant character assassination that we are witnessing? I'm astounded at the vitriol that is being spewed.. the frothing at the mouth type of mob mentality from large swaths of the media. Try as I might I do not understand the level of rage and hatred aimed at us. It MUST be mostly LeBron related, I think?

I try really hard to remain somewhat impartial - but try as I might I don't see where any of this is coming from. It's an attempt to both ruin our chances at a title (influencing refs) and potentially ruining a kids career. Dan Gilbert should give Matt a nice fat contract as a fuck you to all of this bull shit. Most especially if we persevere and win a title.

It's almost to the point that the thought flits across my mind that litigation could be involved. Dunno. But some segments of the media are being so willfully ignorant that it borders on slander, in the legal sense.

I'm encouraged by responses on twitter and reddit.. I need to give more credit to fans nationally. Most see the hatchet job being done, I think. Just crazy, unprecedented stuff. I can't wait to see what happens tonight the first time Delly plays picture perfect hands up defense - do the refs now start calling (more) phantom fouls on him?

Remember when Bill Walton labeled Varejao a flopper? He started getting called for offensive fouls all the time. I'm sure the same thing will happen with Delly.

A few points.

First. Most replays that the media are showing of the Horford incident do not talk about Horford with the arm lock on Delly. Not to mention the doctoring of the baseline footage. When they replay that part of the play, they completely crop out Carroll lying on the ground and Delly being dragged. This is clearly the media perpetuating a narrative and story to ask the question "Is Delly a dirty player?" He's not, but these idiots love talking about it.

Second, the three plays that have given Delly a "track record". They most certainly have. In all 3 cases, Delly is CLEARLY out hustling each player and they pay for it.

Gibson: Delly gets the better position on Taj and boxes him out. Taj assumes as the bigger, more physical player that Delly shouldn't have him beat in this situation. Out of frustration, what does he do? Shoves a few elbows at Delly and knocks him to the floor. Delly pins Taj's ankle. He's not doing any real harm here, but it's not a basketball play. Then the replay shows Taj clearly kicking his leg free and not actually kicking at Delly. I don't think Taj should have been ejected, but clearly Delly pissed him off by out hustling him under the basket.

Korver: Loose ball. Delly does what you are coached to do. DIVE for the ball and protect it. He dives for the ball and puts his body in between the ball and other defenders. Korver, the lazy player he is, goes for a loose ball like a pansy. Korver was injured by his own lack of desire for the ball. Delly wanted it WAY more and not only did what it took to get possession of that ball, but did what you're supposed to do. Be physical, get on the ground, get that ball. Korver injured himself by lallygagging. Korver set precedent here when in game 2 he sees Lebron driving the lane and runs the other way. He clearly showed that didn't have what it takes to win in the playoffs. Again, Delly just out hustling his opponent.

Horford: This is just like the Taj incident. Delly gets in the better position and boxes out Horford. Horford, another entitled big man, thinks he should have the upper hand here. Not only does he go over the back of Delly, but to keep Delly away from the ball, he pulls an Olynyk and arm locks Delly, pulling him away from the ball. Carroll is on the ground. When someone has your arm locked like that, it is natural for someone to try and stay level with your arm. If Delly just falls to the ground, there is a chance that his shoulder could dislocate. His natural response, keep your legs underneath of your body. That's why it appears as if he's leap frogging across the floor. He gets tripped up by Carroll, while at the same time Horford continues to pull him across the floor. When Horford finally lets go, Delly goes to the ground and bumps into Horford's leg. Horford drops an elbow on Delly's head/shoulder. Let's get real for a second. Horford drops that elbow. There is no question that was a Flagrant 2 and he's out of the game. You can't have guys just dropping elbows. That's not a basketball play. Imagine if Delly was in a worse position and Horford really connects with Delly's head driving it in the floor. THAT was a clear intent to injure Delly. But this is another case where an entitled big man feels like a PG shouldn't be getting the better of him under the glass.

Delly is clearly outhustling the Hawks in this series and it's pissing them off. I'm a little worried about tonight's game because I don't trust the Hawks. Just look at Antic's two armed push on a flying high Lebron. That is not a hustle play. That is just some bench scrub trying to be overly physical on a better player. Lebron even said in their press conference, if you're concentrating on Delly, you're not paying attention. You could tell he stumbled over the words a bit because he wasn't saying that Delly isn't a good player, but there is a lot more going on in the game than worrying about setting physical screens on Delly or elbowing him in the face on an inbound. Guys like Delly and TT have just wanted it more than the Hawks this series.

Hopefully they can close it tonight.

I have no doubt that Delly will get a couple touch fouls early in the game. I just hope Perk lays someone out when it happens.

Delly should watch out tonight. If ATL senses they are going to lose, they will do what BOS and CHI did and start with the frustration cheap shots and fouls.

Delly will be target #1, he is a tough guy but he'll need to protect himself out there.

I like Delly's chances in that fight. He has more heart than that entire team

Kind of amazing that the "fundamentally sound beautiful team basketball" Atlanta Hawks has turned into a whining retaliation machine that plays iso ball.
