JR Smith

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Keep Shump no matter what, only keep JR if you can't find better in a trade using Haywood.

On one hand I am disappointed in JR. But I feel the same way I do about him as I do with Delly(which I realize sounds insane).

But they are both players who do specific things well in a limited role. They were both terribly miscast after the injuries.

With the ball movement and motion that we would have had with a healthy Kyrie and Love, this would have been an entirely different series for JR. And if he did still struggle, it would have been as the 4th/5th option behind LeBron, Kyrie, Love, and Mozgov, so the impact would have been far lesser.

If he does leave, I hope both sides are open to S&T him for a player under contract with another team.

As an above the tax apron team, we can not recieve a S&T player, but we can ship out a player like JR or Shump via S&T for a player already in a multiyear contract.

when the game was over J.R started raining 3's like it was nothing.... he can hit every shot when hes relaxed and has no pressure.

the pressure was just too much for him and you could see on his face he was devastated by the way he kept playing, feel bad for J.R but he was great for us in this playoff run

Never forget that he helped carry us when Kyrie went down. It was natural that GS made it a point to get him out of sorts. I hope you noticed they even doubled him at times on the drive. they were not going to let him get going and then he finally took himself out of the series. Give them credit as much as you heap scorn on JR. He was in tough position. NOt meant to be #2 option. Ever.

If J.R. opts out with the understanding we're going to keep him, it better be for less money.

I find it hard to stomach paying him more than what he got paid the year immediately after his 6th man of the year season. That was JR at his absolute best. We shouldn't be paying an older, not quite as good JR MORE money.

We don't have the money to be just throwing around either. AV's contract is looking ugly already, then you got TT/Love, Shump. JR do the right thing and take less. If not... It was fun.

JR needs the Cavs and the camaraderie and the closeness with certain guys a whole helluva lot more than the team needs him...

He wouldn't want to be on another team

Game isn't over, but JR has been considered mentally fragile for years. I think the Finals have shown us why he has that reputation. As a 4th offensive option, he would have been great in these past three series.

he was great against atlanta.

JR started knocking the day-too-late-penny-too-short shots when all pressure was gone as we were about to be eliminated. This particular stage was a bit much for him.Very disappointing. But that is exactly why he is not considered a top level guard in this league, just an erratic, streaky, inconsistent shooter.
Would never guessed he would be mentally so weak.

In an ideal situation you sit him when he isn't playing well. We were so short handed that it just wasn't an option.

Its beating a dead horse but until Dan Gilbert gives an indication that he has an upper spending limit we have all the money in the world for our own guys.

We could literally sign LeBron, Love, Shump, TT, JR, and Delly to MAX deals while trading Haywood for a 10 million per year player and using the tax payer MLE to sign a guy at a round 3 million per year on top of the existing Kyrie, Mozgov and Andy deals.

Obviously that won't be happening but we're not limited by the collective bargaining agreement currently in place from doing that exact scenario and paying a few hundred million in luxury tax.

Proved himself to be mentally weak and not prepared to be a number 2 option. I think he would have been great with Kyrie Irving healthy but I'm not sure where the team goes from here with him. He really shit the bed in the Finals.

C'mon man. You are being harsh on him. He had a bad series. But, when his role was as a third or fourth option, he was really good. You can't buy a Fiat and expect it to run like a Ferrari.
He was asked to do what he was brought in to do which is play good defense and hit shots. He did neither. The excuse of he didn't play well because they asked him to be the "2nd/3rd option" is bogus. They asked him to be a Fiat and he ran like a Pinto. He mailed it in after reaching the finals.
