Hmmm. Well obviously, if SAS wanted to clear off Splitter and Mill, than Kaun could be part of the package along with Haywood.

Brooklyn doesn't have much on their roster that would fit here. Don't think they'd do Plumlee for Kaun and 26.

With Kaun costing us nothing against the cap or tax at the moment, can't imagine we'd have any motivation to deal him unless we get a player or pick back.

I don't have any idea how his desire to come to the NBA affects us as the owner of his draft rights. If we have no room or use for him on our 15 man roster and he wants to play in the NBA, is there some sort of league procedure for how that works or do we just hold all the leverage over Kaun.

Splitter would be a great pickup if our front court wasn't the most intimidating in the league heading into next season (provided we can keep Andy around longer than December.) I still think our priorities are a backup pg and somebody who can spell LeBron.

Larry Coon has this to say:

"If the player is already under contract to, or signs a contract with a non-NBA team, the team [Cavs] retains the player's draft rights for one year after the player's obligation to the non-NBA team ends.....If the team does not sign the player in the allotted time, the player can enter the next draft. If the team that selects the player in the next draft doesn't sign him either, he becomes a rookie free agent on the date of the following draft.

So I guess that means if the Cavs like him for the future, they have a year to sign him. If they don't, they could trade his draft rights. If nothing happens with Kaun within a year, I think he would be eligible for next year's draft or would become a free agent if left undrafted.

Even though Wuck beat me to this, This is how I thought it worked so feel free to correct me if I or my barrowed quote is wrong

Basically we can put a price on his rights and deal him at that cost. Basically he is a free agent with our rights I think. This guy said it better I am about to quote

"It's trading for the right to sign the players to a contract, because if you don't have draft rights to a player, you can't sign them unless they disagree to the contract the team that drafted them offered."

Thanks. Considering I referred a poster earlier today to the Larry Coon FAQ, perhaps I should have taken my own advice(although that was regarding a far more basic salary cap question) and headed there myself :chuckle:

Anyone following Matt Barnes? I saw something about his final destination yet to be determined? Something about him being possibly bought out? Could he be obtained by the Cavs as a 3 and D guy? He maybe could fill JRs role at a cheaper price, at least for one season? Maybe could also play some at the 4? He's old but if he's cheap he might be worth it.

Could get him for the MLE if he is a FA otherwise no use for him. No way I trade any asset for the guy if we can get one of Mills or Splitter. If he wants to come here for the MLE if he gets bought out sure why not.

How do you see Splitter fitting into our rotation, or are you expecting one of our bigs to not be re-signed?

I see it as kind of a Andy trade off. Basically he and Andy can spell each other. He would be perfect to keep Andy healthy and Andy would be used more in big game situations or rotations. Having three healthy bigs off the bench is perfect for now. We can always trade said player in a flip deal as well. If nothing else it adds options.

Why does everybody want to get rid of Harris? Can't we have ONE young guy to develop outside of our big guns? By no means do I think he'll be a superstar but he has all the makings to be a very nice piece down the line.

Not sure how he is going to develop if he doesn't get any minutes. Did he at least play with the Cantons this season? I'm not sure.

Unless we get a key piece in the SF position he should stay. He is Smart but not athletic and these are the players LeBron makes look good. If he can do what Miller did this year he is worth a spot on this team.

I'm greedy..I want Aldridge..and Love and Gay and ..and ..and ...:biggrin new::biggrin new::biggrin new:
