Farewell, Richard Jefferson.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think it's interesting that Mark Cuban essentially just let him go. He had apparently committed to returning to the Mavs but changed his mind after DeAndre Jordan went back to the Clippers? He asked Cuban if he could go to Cleveland and Cuban essentially said "sure, whatevs?"

At least, that's how I'm reading the story.

Makes sense. Pretty sure he gave Wes Matthews the same deal.

I don't think its that they "must not have valued him very highly", more so that he is the type of guy you want when competing for titles (which they were going to try to do with Jordan) and he's the type of player who values that at this stage of his career, but not the kind of guy you want when going through a rebuilding stage. Sounds like, with Jordan cold shouldering them, they want to roll with their youth, while offering older vets who committed while Jordan was still in the plans the chance to go over their situation again. They did the same thing with Wes Matthews, doesn't mean they didn't value him.

Just a really classy move by the Mavs to a player who only has a couple seasons left to get a ring.

Yeah, if you think about it, the Mavs are going nowhere. RJ thought he was signing with a team that was going all in for a title, and Cuban wanted some veteran depth for a championship run. With the Mavs looking like they'll chill in the middle of the pack, it makes perfect sense for RJ to go elsewhere and for Cuban to leave roster/rotation spots for younger players.

I think it's funny how upset we get at the "disagree" rating. Once I disagreed with a Big Mar post, and then I found him gravedigging and disagreeing with old posts of mine. Weird.

Are you claiming a retaliatory disagreement?

I am thrilled with this signing and it literally has nothing to do with how he plays on the court and everything to do with the reaction on here.

Ths was the cavs off season? Jesus.
I mean we locked up our core for 4 years, upgraded our two weakest bench spots, and got Andy back from injury. If we compare every offseason to last years, it is going to be a big disapointment, but this was solid.

Can't wait to see Mo Williams instead of Delly off the bench, if I was guessing, he will be a 6MOY candidate.

Let's see here the band was 33-3 when they all play together, the band is all coming back, we upgraded the backup pg position, so what we really need is 1,Heath 2, health 3, health, so if those 3 all play out, I have a gut feeling we will be alright..... So signing any small forward that is slated to play 8 to 14 min a game is not going to make any difference..

Oh by way it take two to tangle maybe Dorrell Wright didn't want to come here, last I heard he wanted to go to Miami. Just saying

Or just show he can not overspend on trades, or actually utilize our picks when we have them.... or know how to trade a player for max value rather than just handing out near-max contracts..

But whatevs..

ok.. now I'm done.

So getting Shump and JR for peanuts and Moz for two 1sts is overspending on trades? Perhaps you're referring to the Jack trade? The two mid-season trades made us into title favorites. Prior to those moves, we looked like a rudder-less ship. Maybe you think he gave up too much in the Love trade?

We forked over a lot of picks last summer. Some of it was necessary to clear the cap-space to sign LeBron, unless perhaps you weren't a fan of that move either.

Due to lack of cap-space and tradeable assets, we were severely limited in what we could actually do this off-season. Beyond resigning out own players, we've done what I expected. They clearly didn't want/need to add another player via the draft as it would have meant giving a guaranteed contact to a guy that has little to no chance to contribute at all this year. Like it or not, RJ is significantly more valuable to our title chances this season than anyone we could have feasibly drafted.

Ideally, JR signs and one year deal and becomes a tradeable asset at the deadline of need be. Ditto for a TPE. Either of those might allow us to add picks or players. Getting RJ makes Smith more expendable come deadline time.

Meh, I don't see that parallel as much as you. Jefferson has Jones by about 20 pounds, is (still) able to operate as a wing and can still get up and down the court.

Jones cannot play the 3 because he's light and pretty immobile and his feet move like a 5. Richard Jefferson can play the 3 and is much more versatile than Jones.

Okay, then it makes Jones redundant, because what does Jones give us that Jefferson doesn't? Still doesn't make a lot of sense to carry both, does it? Except for the cap/tax aspect of Jefferson being so cheap.

Anyway, you play the position you can guard, and neither of them can really guard anyone at this point. So we've got two mid-30's tweeners who are pretty good shots but can't play much defense.

But I get it -- he's cheap.

This kind of threw me for a loop, I expect him to play the Marion role but I really hope to see him be a solid contributor off the bench for good stretches of the season.

When I agree with Q-Tip... i mean.. c'mon.. there's not much room to debate at that point.

For as much as.people like to make fun of Cuban being hyper, it's easy to see why he's successful. When everyone was waiting for him to flip out over Jordan, he just played it very cool. Made his point, but looked like a pro doing it. And this is another one of those moves confiing he's a good owner.

Not sure why people are bitching we will have

Irving/Mo/Delly
Shump/JR
LeBron/Jefferson/Miller
Love/Thompson/Jones
Mozgov/Varejao

Plus Haywood/TPE and the the players we drafted in the 2nd round recently to find the upgrade if need be at backup wing and/or a 4th big near the deadline.
