Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think 13 million is a fair offer for mozgov considering his age

He will get a 4 year deal next year at 17 mill a season or so. No way are we lucky enough to get away with 13 mill.

I would bet money on 87. I think Cavs will pay that eventually, not because they have to but because they don't want to risk alienating TT, Lebron or Paul. They don't want to take risks right now, however small.
I think Gilbert and Griffin are beyond hurting a greedy role player and his delusional agent's feelings at this point, and I doubt LeBron cares all that much either. I bet Griffin gets it done at not a penny above 80 and as a result wins EOY.

They lost any additional leverage by offering him $80 right out of the gate. They should have come to the table with $70, which is still an overpay but a digestible one.

It has already been reported that the 5 years, $80 million was already an increased offer.

It's reasonable to guess the initial offers were in line with what you were suggesting, since that is still a significant increase from the previous extension he turned down.

He and his camp rejected the the increased offer of $80 million and Griffin decided that's where the Cavs should push back.

They should offer 65 million on the 30th..Take it or leave it, you ungrateful brat.
Oh I wish. They should do that and force him to take the qo. Here are the advantages in doing so
1) save a tonn of money in taxes
2) cabs and other teams have one more season to see where he stands
3) can secure Mozgov and then decide how much to pay TT

If TT really proves he is worth( which I don't think Will happen), cavs can offer him the same money they are offering now and more since they saved a tonn in taxes this year.
It's win win for cavs. Lose lose for TT

Is there any good reason the Cavs would extend the QO past Oct 1st?

Griffin's position is apparently perfect. You either take the already overpaid offer of 5/80M or the QO. You choose, offers on the table till 31th.

Of course the best for the team is he takes the offer, even if it's overpaid. But if he's dumb enough not to take it and sign the QO, that's a horrible move for him, and not necessarily that bad to Cavs. Let's remember he will have to show work to deserve a near max contract next season. If he isn't motivated enough by his QO contract he chose to sign, he will be for his next contract.

If he signs the QO, Cavs can still sign him permanently when he's a UFA - regardless of what his agent says now, it's worth zero in 1 year time - and if he signs elsewhere, the TPE is lying there to be used. It's enough money to replace him. Bad news is at least an asset will have to go away along with the TPE, like Osman or something. But that's not a hefty price for him signing the QO.

In other words, Cavs are in a comfortable position here IMO. Just keep steady. TT is the one who has everything to lose.
lol
"30 days hath September, April, June and November. All the rest have 31, except February, which has 28."
Note, Feb will have 29 this winter because it's a leap year.

Tristan gambled last season and it looks like it paid off. The question becomes is he willing to do it again. The slight difference is that he's closing in on max money already and if he would take the qualifying offer instead he'd leave close to 10 million on the table this year. So for that to work out he would need to make that back plus additional pay to consider it a win. That doesn't even factor the risk of injury.

If he takes the QO, he needs to get 18.25 million per year for 4 years just to break even. I say let him.

It's like you're in Vegas, you just hit the jackpot and can't control your wish to do it again. Gotta know when you should stop gambling. Anyway this is not really relevant to any of the parties. He is a millionaire anyway and will earn many millions yet. Gilbert is a billionaire anyway and a few less or more won't make much difference. TT is playing this season anyway, chances of getting a title remain the same. And if he leaves he is not hardly repleceable.

So... the world keeps spinning.

I've lost all respect for Thompson. This is a joke and im sure lebron is thinking the same thing.

He will two or three days of practice. Big deal.

If he signs or takes the QO, then there's no reason to lose respect for TT. He's well within his right to ask for as much as he thinks he deserves. Just as the Cavs are well within their right to hold their ground.

If he holds out after the deadline, then he's an idiot. But up until then, he's just trying to maximize his value. I don't have a problem with that--so long as he has a good attitude when he returns to the team.

I wouldn't say I've lost respect for him, but I see a guy who appears to be overplaying his hand at this point.
For a guy with zero offensive game, and limited ability to protect the rim, to get 16 mil a year for 5 years it way above market value, even with the cap rising.

The difference between what he wants and what he can get isn't worth making a moral stand.

Time to sign TT. Your agent did an excellent job.

If you don't, the risk isn't worth the reward.

Im not sure why a hold out is even a prospect unless portland or philly is willing to make a 3 year offer with a opt out after 1 year.
