Dream Team 4: Golden State Warriors

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
All hyperbole aside what GS is doing is quite historic.

For a team that won 67 games and a title last year to come out this year like world beaters is not something you see every day. Most championship teams feel fat and happy for a little while and have to ease their way into the season as they are usually full of veteran guys you have to be careful with.

GS is the youngest core group to win one since the first Spurs titles, so that is probably why this year feels so different with them and how they have reacted to it.

I think deep down, while they'd never admit it, they know they got a bit lucky with so many teams getting hit with major injuries while they themselves stayed healthy throughout. And that's not a knock on them - they deserved what they accomplished and every single champion gets some luck - but they had a little bit more and I think they knew it.

I fully expect GS to break the record. They are that good. They may not lose a regular season game...who cares you still have to win the whole thing. The Cavs are 14-7 having played like crap most of the season and without many key players..not too bad. Wait until we get healthy then lets see where we're at. Even that Bulls team lost 2 games in the finals. Still 7 months to go...

Even beyond that, drawing Houston was a lucky, lucky occurrence. That LA team matched up well and their athleticism stacked up against any team - heck, they took out SA.

They got lazy and let an inferior Houston team take that series. GS avoided the two best teams in the Western Conference.

Now the Cavs didn't face much opposition, either. But we faced our share of adversity with an injury-riddled roster.

You can try to copy it, but you won’t have the personnel. There isn’t another Draymond Green, another Klay, another Andre. If you put your small-ball lineup next to ours, we like our chances.

Steph Curry on the recent trend of other teams trying to copy the Warriors small ball line-up approach.

Spurs must be enjoying flying under the radar with what would be a league-leading record any other season (18-4).
They are going to knock the Warriors out of the playoffs.

08-09 Cavs started like 20-3. It really doesn't mean anything.
It doesn't, but even a detractor like myself can't deny there's a certain prestige about being unbeaten after 23 games. Even if they had one or two losses, the hype level would be cut in half.

As long as their record remains unblemished, they will carry an air or mystique in some circles of being an unbeatable team.

When the defending world champ gets even better and starts 23-0 it is kind of a big deal.

It is a big deal, but it doesn't change anything. It's not like their chances of repeating would be lower if they were 20-3 instead of 23-0.

Our small ball lineup

Pg Kyrie vs Steph
SG Iman vs Klay
SF JR Smith vs Iggy
PF Lebron vs Green
C Love vs Bogut/Ezeli

But, they would, because their chances of getting homecourt throughout would be lower. They would quite literally be lower.

Their small ball lineup has Green at the five and Barnes instead of Bogut/Ezili.

I also think it'd be a mistake to not give Delly huge minutes against the Warriors. That guy bothered Steph like nobody else has. And on offense he keeps the ball moving with sharp passes and has turned into a good three point shooter.

bothered him last year. steph looks better. he'll probably torch him on christmas
