Mike Pettine

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
To me, if you're gonna troll you pick a position that's at least SEMI defensible. The Bortles improvement vs not improvement argument is a weird choice.

Hats off either way, I guess.

He needs to go. We brought him in for a defensive identity, which was established in his first year. I don't know what the hell happened to that this year.

They were 23rd in the league in total defense last year, including dead last against the run. So it isn't as if they were all that good defensively last year, either.

I feel you but something changed. We gave up more big plays and much more points this year. I guess you could say we were "luckier" last year in that regard but that's no excuse. I just expected positive growth from year 1 to year 2. We have decent personnel. I was surprised at the regression on D this year.

People really think that Bortles isn't getting better? Getting worse? :chuckle:

I don't see how one can look at this or watch a game and say Bortles is regressing. Lower INT%, higher TD% pretty much wipes out the statement that Bortles is not more efficient.

According to that same website, their Strength of Schedule is easier than last year too.

I'm just saying that Bortles is benefiting from having studs in Allen Robinson, Allen Hurns and Julius Thomas more than he's actually improving himself.

Whatever you need to tell yourself in order not to give credit where it's due.

He had both of those wideouts for the majority of last year, Thomas has marginal numbers for a TE.

ARob is good, so is Bortles. Hurns and Thomas are adequate complimentary pieces, but saying Bortles isn't improving because those guys are too good is a weak excuse.

"Interesting" that almost everyone on the replies is picking A and are saying "it's not even close"

Ohio State superstar + JOHNNY F*ING FOOTBALL are going to win any casual vote. There may as well have not been an option B.

Yeah and if you hit the Powerball numbers, it's better to invest $100,000 in lottery tickets than a 401k.

So because Johnny has kept under the radar for the 2 weeks of the year, turned up his effort when faced with being benched permanently, and because he's potentially "serviceable" like his supporters have been saying lately, that means we should just say eff it, ignore potential franchise QB alternatives, keep a losing regime in place despite a likely 3-18 record since starting 7-4 and let Pettine try to build around a guy he clearly butts heads with? Because all that means Johnny is going to be a model citizen on and off the field for the next 10 years? Seriously?

This off-season, we are in position to and need to find the best QB going forward for this football team. Period. If that's Goff, then Johnny needs to go. I know we've been starved for QB play for so long but having a "serviceable" guy should not stop us from drafting a potential franchise guy... celebrity status be damned.

Two of my favorite quotes from reddit.com/r/browns:

After the 49ers game:
JM showed he is a legit NFL starter today. If he puts 100% into it...maybe a top 10 or even a top 5 guy in a couple years.

And this other guy is just a gold mine of ignorant posts, here's my favorite from him:
Cardale is still projected to be a 2-3 rounder.

Lynch and Goff will both be busts in the NFL, make sure to tag this post and then come back in 3 years when neither have done anything above a Austin Davis level.

And even if by the grace of god they somehow ball out and become a franchise quarterback, it's going to take them 2-3 years to adjust their game to a level where they'll be playing high quality NFL football. You're not getting an Andrew Luck, you're not getting a Blake Bortles, you're not getting a Cam Newton. You're going to be getting a AJ McCarron.

Same guy argued that Bridgewater is garbage and then referenced his TD/Int/Fmb numbers, which were better than Manziels.

Just shows how uninformed the average Browns fan is.

Bosa ill be a top 3 pick . If and picks him its because he went to ohio state but what if its Tennessee or San Diego... why would they pick because he went to OSU??

It amazes me people in the hate of ohio state look past the player himself.
Myles, Ramsey and Bosa all should be ranked higher on the Browns board than Goff and Lynch

I haven't seen 1 person yet say that Bosa will be anything but a great player. Nobody has put him down at all as a player, so I'm not sure where that's coming from..

@Phills14 has brought this up before, but look no further than the Texans for a dominant defensive player with no more than an average QB. That's exactly the position we'd be in.

If a team doesn't have a franchise QB, that should ALWAYS be priority #1 when it comes to the draft.

When did I say anyone called Bosa a bad player?

Anytime someone mentions Bosa and the reply is well but he plays for Ohio state thats why people are for it is implying that Bosa is not worthy of a top 3 pick on his own merit.

As i said before I Think bringing in another young qb tocompete with Manziel would be a solid move. The cowboys drafting Walsh with a supplemental pick to compete against Aikman was a solid move,

However Im not so sure Goff and Lynch are a tier above Cook and Wenz. If they arent then it would be as bad as the Cavs drafting Anthony Bennett with the first pick.

Bosa, Ramsey and Myles are much easier to guage their NFL transition than a Class of quarterbacks that are clearly not as good as Mariottta and Winston from last season.
