It's not a matter of being gassed as in huffing and puffing on the mound. It's a matter of your pitches lacking their typical movement when your arm is tired, and the way the Cubs were hitting, you weren't stopping them with mediocre stuff.
In Game 1, Kluber was Kluber. In Game 4, he had above average stuff and balls of steel. In Game 7, he was Trevor Bauer. But there really wasn't anything else they could do. Are you going to go with Merritt in Game 4 to keep everyone on regular rest? I can't argue for that. When you're missing two of your top three, you have to try to make sure it doesn't go seven games, and that's what Tito did. I just wish he would have gone with Salazar over Bauer in Game 5. So he could only give you three innings. Bauer wasn't going to give you more than that. And his wildness and straight fastball is just what they needed to wake up their bats. And why put Salazar on the roster just to have him for garbage time?
