2019 NBA Draft Lottery

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I could see Boston wanting to get rid of Hayward and basically reset the team in anticipation of Kyrie leaving. #14 and Hayward for JR's contract and Henson. That allows them to go after a max free agent and while being able to resign Rozier. Maybe they re-up Horford at a different number depending on what free agents they go after.

Hayward is too good to be salary dumped with a pick. Another team would offer something real for him in a second.

Not when he is making 32 million next year and has a player option for 34 million the year after that. He just averaged 9 points in 30 minutes per game in the playoffs. There is no guarantee he can help a team next year or he will ever get back to the player he once was.

For Boston they would want to clear Hayward off their books for this summer so they can rework Horford's contract and get another max player. There is no guarantee that someone will have enough cap space to absorb Hayward into cap space. It doesn't help that next summer Jaylen Brown becomes a restricted free agent and Tatum the year after that.

The nice part about JRs contract is that it clear cap day 1 of free agency. They don't have to worry about putting together a deal and have to pay a premium to clear cap when they get a commitment.

Also Rozier just said yesterday that he wouldn't want to be back with the Celtics if Hayward and Kyrie are back with the team. They know the Rozier, Tatum, Brown, etc group that got them to the ECF last year works. They can add someone that fits better with that group going forward this year in free agency.

I'd rather move up for bol
Not enough to make that drop. If Atlanta was talking #8 and #10 in return for #5 and #26, then I listen.
We both know ATL isn't going for that. I'm just saying if Cavs are considering Bol at #5 doesn't #14 Bol #20 ? #26 ? Sound better then #5 Bol #26 ?

From people's reactions I assume everyone flip's out if Bol goes #5

Hachimura can't shoot. So guess the only option is Hunter who may or not be left by 5. Hachimura is a lesser version of Derrick Williams. Tweener forward without range who was good in college. Won't translate to the NBA.

Hachi is a better shooter than others under consideration:

Hachimura
41.7% on 3pt (small sample size)
73.9% on free throws
height 6'8" (wingspan 7'2")

Culver
30.4% on 3pt
70.7% on free throws
height 6'6" (wingspan 6'10")

Barrett
30.8% on 3pt
66.5% on free throws
height 6'7" (wingspan 6'10")

And he’s raw. He has upside, and a good work-ethic!

I didn't realize it was that bad. And isn't the college three shorter than NBA? Three point percentage can be somewhat circumstantial, but the free throws is most concerning.

He was also a true frosh while the Asian guy was a JR.

You've been here for 9 years... this is the best you can do?
Listen, sometimes a little brevity helps. He does not have the potential to be a top 2 option. He is a boring, slow player, with a slow shot. This guy simply doesn't have much reason for the Cavs to draft him.

It’s all about the risk Koby and his team is willing to take. If you believe he’s worthy of a top 5 pick why mess around and hope he’s there at 14? His upside is so high IMO that it can propel you into elite GM status if he works out. It’s also the kind of pick that gets you fired if it fails while Hunter is guaranteed job security.

I think you have to look for teams that the contract we take with JRs contract opens them up a max slot or close to it with whatever cap space they already have.

Denver could be a situation where they want to get more cap space if they decline Milsap's team option.

Another scenario is for a team that can pair JRs contract with a useful player, expirings, and/or assets to do a CP3 like opt in and trade like Houston did 2 years ago.

Agreed..I think posters need to remember that trades often don't materialize like it's thought up in their minds.
It's way more complicated and very likely that the Cavs probably will have to take a player they might not really want (for JR) and/or give up a asset.
It's early to know what will transpire but I'm narrowing down that # 5 spot as to whom I like..
Koby is going to have to be creative this year because it's not a great draft.

Hunter looks stiff to me and at times uncoordinated. He plays morel like a PF than a SF at Virginia.

I don't see how he currently warrants the 5 selection? I'd rather take a chance on Culver because I believe his playmaking will translate.

Hunter's offense is very unimaginative. Always in his comfort zone and looks like he will need a good structured system.

Hunter reminds me of Anunoby. He is big, strong and will probably find a good spot even early on as a spot up shooter, defender.

Hunter is only guaranteed job security if he propels you towards the playoffs because of his talent. If he is just a solid, contributing NBA player, that will keep you as a lottery team too and get you fired unless you find that special player some other year or some other way. Very few top 10 picks matter. It is depressing when you scroll through the draft results from years past and see how few top 10 players are remotely relevant. It is better to try 5 times for Giannis and get him once. Sacramento added top 10 talents Jimmer Fredette, Thomas Robinson, Ben McLemore, Nik Stauskas, and Willie Cauley-Stein from 2011 to 2016. None mattered.

None of those guys could play at the NBA level:
Jimmar isn't quick enough to play at the 1 or 2 (or on the floor period at any position)
TRob was built for the 90's Pacers not the 10's Kings
Ben McLemore doesn't know how to play basketball
Nik can't shoot despite being hailed as a shooter
WCS: look who was drafted after him.. Kings did OK there by and large with all things considered.

Hunter won't bust like the other 4. Right now he's inline to be a solid starter, if he adds some handles, front line starter, if he adds some handles and an off the dribble 3, front line starter/potential all star.

With the advantage of hindsight, I can tell you what every player will do in the NBA. But at least with Robinson and McLemore, there was very strong opinions prior to the draft that they were going to be impact players. Most of the top 10 in this draft--like every NBA draft--will never make an all star team and become expendable spare parts by the time of their 2nd deal.
