I keep trying to tell myself there’s no way he can carve out a role on the real squad, but then I just keep seeing Korver when I watch him play.
He’s going to be behind Isaac in the backup rotation, but if there’s an injury or a roster move still left to be made?? Watch out for Sam shooting his way into regular playing time.
Size is less of an issue in today's game than it was just 10 years ago. He is a lot quicker than Korver to make up for that. The issue with Merrill is size. He can't parade as a forward like Korver could.
On this team, there simply aren't minutes at the guard position.
So are the guys he'd have to match up with. I don't agree that size is 'less of an issue' for players playing the 1-3 spots. If anything, the increase in switching defenses has favored larger guards.Size is less of an issue in today's game than it was just 10 years ago. He is a lot quicker than Korver to make up for that.
Until injuries happen. When they occur having a pure shooter on the bench will be helpfulThe issue with Merrill is size. He can't parade as a forward like Korver could.

If enough injuries happen to Garland, Mitchell, Okoro, LeVert, Rubio, Jerome, and Strus that force Merrill into a large role, then the team is screwed regardless.Until injuries happen. When they occur having a pure shooter on the bench will be helpful
