I have always liked him as a hitter.I'm impressed with Freeman, and IMO so should the board be. (Disclaimer: I've been higher on Freeman than almost every other prospect we've had for years.)
He is definitely not Straw...an unfair comparison)... but he has been at least average in center, (3 DRS) surprising for never playing it. Only Julio Rodriguez has more. Quick first step, quick reaction to mistakes, and knows the situation.
Offensively, he has maybe been our most unlucky hitter.
On the Guardians he ranks:
1st in EV
1st in EV 50
2nd in Barrel% (Nails)
1st in Hard hit rate.
His K rate is solid, his BB rate has improved, and he doesn't hit a ton of ground balls.
And yet, his BABIP is .230.
How does he have 3 DRS on the year? That should be a clear example to everyone as to how wonky certain defensive metrics can be.
