Crunch-time lineup:

Mo, Delonte, Iggy, LeBron, Andy... (... ... ...)

Holy shit, son.

Yep, just another writer imagining the possibilities. Still waiting for the reports that talks are actually serious (And saying who, exactly, we'd have to give up)...

I'm bored, so I figured I'd write up a little outline of the possible deals Philly has available to give people an idea of our chances. I took a guess at the MAX offer each team would make, but I only used the 3* most talked about teams. For money saving calculations I assumed every player excluding Z is paid bi-weekly during the season, meaning they'll have ~half their overall year's salary left to be paid after the trade. These pros/cons are from Philadelphia's POV:

Dallas Mavericks
The Deal: Erick Dampier, Josh Howard, & Rodrigue Beaubois for Sam Dalembert, & Andre Iguodala**

Pros

  • Young prospect***
  • Save $53.5M if Iggy declines final player option in 13/14, $69.4M if he accepts
Cons

  • Tough sell to fans

Cleveland Cavaliers
The Deal: Zydrunas Ilgauskas, J.J. Hickson, Danny Green, Wally Szczerbiak(7.5M S&T), $3M cash, 2010 1st Round Pick, & 2012 1st Round Pick for Sam Dalembert & Andre Iguodala

Pros
  • Save $60.5M if Iggy declines final player option in 13/14, $76.4M if he accepts****
  • Multiple young prospects they want*****
  • On good terms/friends with Ferry, according to W&G
  • Worst talent-wise resulting in better draft pick
Cons
  • Tough sell to fans

Phoenix Suns
The Deal: Amare Stoudemire & Jason Richardson for Sam Dalembert & Andre Iguodala

Pros
  • Easy to sell to fans
Cons

  • Save $35.2M if Amare declines player option in 10/11 and Iggy declines player option in 13/14, $17.5M if Amare accepts player option in 10/11 and Iggy declinces player option in 13/14, $51.1M if Amare declines player option in 10/11 and Iggy accepts player option in 13/14, $33.4M if Amare accepts player option in 10/11 and Iggy accepts player option in 13/14
  • No prospects
  • Injury risk with Amare that could lock them into his player option
  • Best deal talent-wise, resulting in a worse draft pick

Results: Dallas +1, Cleveland +3, Phoenix -3

Notes:
* Portland and Houston are two wildcard teams, although they seem interested in other players at the moment
** Dallas said they don't want to make a big deal, they are also considering using Damp's non-guaranteed deal for next year in this off-season. Going to assume reluctance to make a big deal is a smokescreen
*** Philly may not be interested in Beaubois, he's the only prospect Dallas has though
**** Assumed Z would be bought out using our $3M cash and Wally would be bought out using their $3M cash
***** 76ers insider from realgm claims they are very interested in Green, they were also supposedly targeting Hickson if Speights was off the board

I did the money calculations quickly so they may be off a bit, but the gist is they save the most with our deal, second most with the Mavs deal, and least with the Suns deal. All of the pros/cons are tentative and may change. So like I said earlier, if Ferry doesn't try to lowball hardcore we should have a very good chance of getting Iggy and Dalembert.

What do you guys think about Jason Smith?

hes a 7 footer that hits the 3 at a 40% clip. He doesnt really play with there glut of PF's though.

He might be a good fit beside Bron and Shaq if we get iggy.

I think this might be something interesting to ponder:

It's been bandied about that if the Sixers find someone to take on Elton Brand, they'd include their top pick..

So would you guys take Elton Brand on, if it meant getting the Sixers first round pick?

Obviously I don't know what the Cavs would give up but it'd be most of their assets (picks, expirings, young talent, etc.)..

I think it's something interesting to think about...

Philly's gllut of PF's hurts the Phoenix scenario, I would rather have Smith than Dalembert, and I wonder if Philly has any interest in Boobie? They dont seem to need frontcourt players.

Still dont think it makes sense to dump a player of Iguodala's caliber for cap relief, but man... if it actually happens?

Cavs = East beast for the majority of the next decade.

Yep. I don't care about his contract....because it's not my money. He's only 30, and he has been playing pretty well since coming off his surgery.

I've been saying that I have a hard time believing they'd rather give up Dalembert over Brand in any Iggy deal. If the Cavs are willing to take Brand, they could get Iggy. I would HIGHLY doubt anybody else would take on Brand and his contract just to get Iggy. But, who knows.

FWIW:

Philly's insider said they had talks with Phoenix that were essentially: Amare & Richardson for Brand, Iggy, 2010 1st Round pick

The major hitch in the deal was the protection on that pick. He implied that Philly would want top 3 protected at minimum, but they'd prefer top 5 protected if possible. That may change because we wouldn't be making them take on J-Rich, who doesn't expire this year, but it'd still probably be top 3 protected at minimum.

Sorry Antawn, I'll still be in the army...but I gotta join the Iggy Industry

I forgot about him. His contract is horrible but if we can get 1 good year(or in this case a half a season) out of Brand that fixes everything. Also considering the Sixers want Brand gone more, we could take out some of our young guys to help keep our depth. Z, JJ, AP, Wally(4million) and 3 millon cash works.

They would clearly rather give up Brand. Problem is, according to the insider NO teams have shown interest in him. They don't want to add any of their young talent (excluding Iggy) as incentive for Brand either.

If we took Brand, I think it'd be a done deal tbh. But like I've said before, I can't see Ferry doing that. Props to him if he has the balls to pull that off, though.
