A Titillating Tom Chambers Fireside Chat

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Tom Chambers would be a 9th man in today's NBA. For some teams, he wouldn't even play.

That's how much better the league is these days. And yes, I've watched NBA basketball since the mid-80's. Fan nostalgia is one thing, but this current era is BY FAR the best of all time.

It's hard for me to watch even late 90's games at this point. The game is SO much slower.
Tom Motherfucking Chambers would stuff Trey Young in the garbage. He’d smash James Harden into the backboard. He’d take a crap on Steph Curry on his way to the hoop. He’d chase-down block Lebron. He’d call out Durant on social and then defend him using a burner account, just because.

He’d kill it in today’s game and you can eat a bag of Tom Chamber’s sexiness.

You could put prime Tom Chambers on this Cavs team and they’re winning it all…..NoBragJustFact

Who’s gonna stop him ? Jaxson Hayes ? Bruno Fernando ?

Child please!

Chambers was slightly before my time. I started following the game as a kid in 1993. I do remember seeing the Mark Jackson dunk on a VHS highlight tape, and he was pretty good on Tecmo NBA Basketball on the Nintendo...lol.

My favorite eras of basketball that I've witnessed over the years are the mid 1990s (1993 to 1997) and the mid 2010s (2014-2017). Late 90s and 00s were a bit too slow, while the current era has too much of a Morey/Harden influence. I think the other eras I listed were great times where basketball had just the right amount of offense and defense.

Whoa whoa whoa ?? 2000’s slow ? The Kings, Mavs, Suns, Sonics, Warriors ?

I mean I get the Pistons, Pacers, Knicks, Spurs, 76ers and maybe even the Lakers ?

Kings 02 team is probably the most complete team I’ve ever seen… Webber/Bibby/Peja/Christie/Divac/Turk (but even before that with J-Will they were exciting)

Mavs with Nash/Dirk/Finley were fun….

Suns with Nash/Amare/Joe Johnson was amazing

Sonics with Ray and Rashard were also fun to watch

Warriors (We believe) with Baron and Jackson and Monta were high octane as well…

Hell maybe even that 04 Wolves team with MVP KG (so dominant every night) and Spree and Cassell…

There was a lot of good basketball in the 2000’s but what legitimately ended up happening was no skilled big men were coming out of the drafts and it turned into this combo guard iso game and looking for the next euro Dirk…

I mean guys like Oden and Bargnani and Bogut were being drafted #1 overall… Dwight was a nice player but him and Yao, Pau, and Amare were kinda like the last dominant bigs until Blake Griffin came around as a dominant PF…. Otherwise you had okay players but nothing to build a team around like Elton Brand, Kenyon Martin…

Obviously Kwame flopped as did Eddy Curry and to a lesser degree Tyson Chandler and before them Jonathan Bender and after them Darko…

Bosh and Lamarcus were nice finds in their respective drafts in 03,06

But a lot of post play and skilled interior players just did not come thru the league at that time and it’s just kinda continued with some exceptions here and there…

Which has just turned into a 3 point, around the world shoot fest every night now and people consider that a skilled game…

Oh there were exceptions, and you listed several. I did like those Kings teams a lot, and KG was an absolute beast to watch. Suns were definitely fast paced too, but they were awful defensively; my favorite Suns seasons were the 90s in the Barkley/KJ era and then the Kidd/Chapman era.

What about the 04 bucks with Michael Redd and TJ Ford? or the 06 Raptors with Bosh and TJ Ford? Those were some fire teams

Yeah I liked that 97-98 Suns squad. Kidd/Nash/KJ... McDyess upfront... That Suns team almost won 60 games but lost to the Spurs in the 1st round... The NBA doesn't get credit for being deep in that era...

Sonics were great with Payton/Baker (61 wins)
Lakers had 4 all stars (61 wins)
Spurs were healthy and a year away from a championship (56 wins)
Jazz were defending western conference Champs and had the most chemistry.(62 wins)
Houston aged and didn't have Olajuwon for half that season (still went to a deciding game 5 vs the Jazz)
Wolves had KG/Marbury/Gugliotta

Tom Chambers would have been way better today because he would have been forced to really work on his shooting and shot selection. He was a career 80% FT shooter who was mediocre shooting from the floor, tremendous untapped potential there. People always talk about how past players would have been worse now but never about ways better understanding of the game would have made them better
