Buckeyes to play three QBs
Posted: Friday August 10, 2007 10:27AM ET

Ohio State coach Jim Tressel said all three quarterbacks will play in the Buckeyes' first few games. He is focused mostly on having a starter entrenched by the Big Ten opener, Sept. 22 against Northwestern. The depth chart has not changed since the first day of spring practice: Todd Boeckman, Rob Schoenhoft and Antonio Henton -- not coincidentally, arranged in order of seniority.

Not a fan of this '3 QB system'... He did the same thing with Troy Smith and Justin Zwick and basically screwed the season with that decision... We still finished fine but we cold better...

I'm hoping for Antonio Henton as the darkhorse... I'm not a real fan of Boeckman or Schoenhoft, in the little I've seen of them...

The problem is some guys aren't that great in practice, but when the heat is on they raise up their game. They just mentally can't flip that switch unless they know it's for real. Similarly, some guys are great in practice when there is no pressure, but the minute they heat is on they tighten up and play poor. JT knows this. Right now Boekman is playing a little better than the rest, but not a ton. If he plays tight when it matters, or if one of the others raises their game when it's "live", then Boekman will lose his job.

It could come back to bite us, but the only potential loss in the first few is on the road at Washington. The schedule is such that JT can afford to conduct position try outs on saturdays.

Im ok with not flat out giving the job to Boekman without him earning it. If he impresses in camp and then lights up the weakass secondaries he will face right away the job will be his no questions asked. If he doesnt then someone else should get a shot. But not pushing him to see how he responds would be a mistake.

I like Henton also,I just hope he doesn't get screwed like Troy was at the beginning of the year.

Henton was said to make a big leap since they've last worked with him...I like the mobile QB with a gun.

I dont see how you cant like it as a Buckeye fan. You got three guys possibly vying for the #1 spot, you play a cake schedule to start the season. It's essentially three scrimmages or pre-season games to find out who can play with the lights on.

Like style said...somebody has to show who can step up in a game situation. Probably the best way to do it is this.

It beats flipping a coin
