It says either guy could be traded away for practically nothing. I would take Cook for one of our trade exceptions, he is a 6'5-6'6 shooting guard who can shoot.......

Former high lottery pick Shaun Livingston is on the verge of signing a contract with the Miami Heat, according to a report in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

It is believed that Livingston will meet with the Heat on Friday where he will sign a contract. Agent Henry Thomas said earlier this week that Livingston was "leaning toward Miami."

The move may mean more moves are on the horizon for the Heat, with Pat Riley trying to keep his ball club away from the luxury tax. According to the report Miami may try to trade away Daequan Cook or Dorrell Wright for nothing in return.

Sidelined since a devastating knee injury in the middle of the 2006-07 season, the 6-foot-7 playmaker was not retained as a free agent this summer by the Clippers, who drafted him directly out of high school with the No. 4 overall selection in 2004.

I would most definently be up for Cook. He was a baller at Ohio State and played strongly at the end of the season when Miami was in the dumps and they were playing the "guys with potential." His height is the most exciting aspect of course. Sadly, there is no way we pick up Cook for a trade exception. Maybe we could ship Wally off for Haslem and Cook, but that wouldn't be a great move on our part and they probably wouldn't be interested anyway.

The reason they get rid of him for "nothing" is not to add anymore salary. Thats why the article says this could happen because Riley doesn't want to be over the luxury tax. So it would be for a trade exception, but maybe a pick also which i would throw in for Cook.

No thanks I would rather take a gamble on Shaun Livingston ourselves.

Cook is running at about 1.3 mil this season 2.2 or so next season and has a Q. offer of a tad over 3.1 in 2010-2011. We could probably pick him up for some of the exception that may come from snow's retirement and a second round pick if they are legit willing to dump a player with upside to save 3 million bucks over the next two years.

We have a trade exception that is worth 1.6m so that would cover his salary for this season. Snow wouldnt be needed...

Cook is a better long distance shooter, but Wright has the potential to be a superior player..I'd rather have him...

I agree but Wright has been in the league for 4 years i believe and hasnt been as productive as he should be. He also has been a little injury plagued. Cook is more of the offensive player we need and is pretty athletic but Wright has potential to be a lock down defender. I may take Cook just for the simple fact defensively Mike Brown can help out alot and he would be sort of better offensively. Get it done Ferry. Future lineup of mo cook lbj jj and (fill in the blank) would be a scary team.

Not sure if I see much sense in getting either one really. Both would be blocked by several players on our team. I guess they wouldnt hurt as an end of the bench type, but Id rather just fill the roster with league minumum guys so that when a ring chaser gets bought out sometime during the season we can swoop in and pick them up.
