Browns: Crennel to get involved in play-calling
The News
Maurice Carthon will remain as the Browns' offensive coordinator, but head coach Romeo Crennel indicated he would become more involved with the team's play-calling. "All of our offensive staff, they have input into the game plan, and we've talked about emphasizing those things that are our strong points," Crennel told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "And I'm going to see to it that we get those things emphasized. You guys [the media] tell me I'm the head coach, so I can have that responsibility. If I want to change it, it'll change and then, for whatever reason, if you don't like it or I don't like it, I'll tell you that I made that call and it wasn't a good call."
Our View
One play in particular has stuck in the craw of Browns fans and the Cleveland media: a halfback option pass on third and short against Carolina. Of course, it doesn't help that the Browns also rank 31st in the league in total offense and 25th in points with just over 16 points per game. There's certainly some talent on the Browns' offense, but the loss of center LeCharles Bentley has put a severe crimp in their line, which in turn hinders the running game off of which everything is predicated. Rest assured Carthon would be a much better coach if only Bentley were healthy.

Ravens: Fassel fired
The News
The Ravens fired offensive coordinator Jim Fassel Tuesday. Head coach Brian Billick will take over play-calling duties for the 4-2 Ravens. "Clearly, in order for us to expand on our 4-2 start, we have to have more offensive productivity," Billick said at a press conference Tuesday. "It was my opinion going forward to bring about the level of production we needed offensively to go where we need to go that I need to step back in on a day-to-day basis. This is clearly one of the most difficult decisions I've ever had to make not only from a professional level but for the obvious personal reasons because of the relationship that Jim and I have. I have an obligation to this organization to do what I think is in the best interest of this team regardless of how it affects you personally."
Our View
Several players have criticized the Ravens' play-calling over the past few weeks, most notably Derrick Mason and Jamal Lewis, though Billick denied that dissention played any role in Fassel's dismissal. Baltimore has the bye week to get its offensive act together, returning in week eight to take on the Saints.
I guess fireJimFassel.com worked! :) Time to find out if Billick is really good, or if he was just riding the coattails or Randy Moss back when he used to be unstoppable.

EDIT: Another OC bites the dust:

Cardinals: Green fires offensive coordinator
The News
Arizona coach Dennis Green fired offensive coordinator Keith Rowen on Tuesday, less than a day after the Cardinals blew a 20-point lead to the Bears. Quarterbacks coach Mike Kruczek will take over for Rowen. "I've known Keith for a long time. I have the utmost respect for him," Green told the Associated Press. "We are not scoring enough points."
Our View
Considering how good Matt Leinart looked and the efficiency of the offense against the Bears during the first half Monday night, it's a bit of a surprise Rowen was cut loose. Apparently, the Cardinals coaching staff is not who we thought they were.

Man, alot of OCs in the news this morning.
