Blazin' The Trail.

The Portland Trailblazers have had a very successful season this year, stacking up well against the competition. This was no different Thursday night, as the Cavaliers needed an extra five minutes before they could finally put away the Blazers. Here is how Portland has played against top tier talent this season:

Portland Trailblazers versus other teams with 45+ wins (LAL, BOS, ORL, and HOU):

- Record: 4-5.

- Trailblazers: 94.6 points per game on 316-720 (43.9%) shooting.

- Opponent: 97.1 points per game on 311-676 (46.0%) shooting.

- Three Point Shooting: POR - 63-171 (36.8%), OPP - 63-162 (38.9%).

- Brandon Roy (7 games): 21.6 points on 52-127 (40.9%) shooting.

- Opposing Starting Small Forward: 14.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.9 assists.

Portland Trailblazers versus the Cleveland Cavaliers:

- Record 0-2.

- Trailblazers: 95.0 points per game on 65-157 (41.4%) shooting.

- Cavaliers: 100.5 points per game on 78-164 (47.6%) shooting.

- Three Point Shooting: POR - 12-40 (30%), CLE - 15-38 (39.5%).

- Brandon Roy (2 games): 23.5 points on 14-39 (35.9%) shooting.

- LeBron James (2 games): 30.0 points, 12.0 assists, and 9.0 rebounds.

Just from looking at how Cleveland played Portland contrasted with the four other 45+ win teams, a lot can be learned. First, the Cavaliers let the Blazers score slightly more points per game, yet held them to a lower shooting percentage while scoring more points and shooting better than Portland's other opponents. Also, the Cavs held Portland to 6.8% worse three point shooting in their two head-to-head match-ups as opposed to the 9 games against the other opponents. Furthermore, while Brandon Roy scored more points per game against the Cavaliers than against Los Angeles, Boston, Orlando, and Houston combined, he was held to significantly lower field goal percentage. LeBron James also put up great numbers against a defense that held starting small forwards such as Paul Pierce, Hedo Turkaglo, Ron Artest, and others to modest scoring games. Ultimately, the most important stat may be the fact that Portland has beat every 45 win team at least once this season with the exception of Cleveland.

After the win last night, LeBron James improved to 9-3 lifetime against Portland. He has hit game winners at the Rose Garden with 0.3 seconds left, recorded a steal in every game, and now he's won an OT thriller deep... in the Q. Here is a look at how LeBron has played against Portland since 2003:

- LeBron James (12 games): 27.0 points, 9.4 rebounds, 7.7 assists, and 2.3 steals.

Furthermore, here is how he has attacked the Trailblazers since last season (record: 4-0):

- LeBron James (4 games): 30.3 points, 10.5 rebounds, 9.8 assists, 1.5 blocks, 1.3 steals, and only 2.5 turnovers per game.

The only thing a fan can nitpick at is the fact that LeBron hasn't shot higher than 46.7% from the floor over his last four games against the Portland Trailblazers. There is nothing wrong with nearly averaging a triple-double, while recording two actual triple-doubles, though. Lastly, after recording his 24th career triple-double last night, LeBron now has three against Portland, his most against any team in his career.

Triple Threat.

After LeBron's triple-double last night, I couldn't help but see triple. Cleveland won it's third home game of the week and their 1-2-3 combo of Mo, LeBron, and Z put up 59 points in an overtime victory. Here is a closer look at Cleveland's recent home stand:

- Record: 3-0.

- Cavaliers: 97.3 points per game on 116-254 (45.7%) shooting.

- Opponent: 92.7 points per game on 103-249 (41.4%) shooting.

- Turnovers: Cavs - 9.7 turnovers per game, OPP - 11.3 turnovers per game.

- Defense: Cavs - 7.7 steals and 5.3 blocks per game, OPP - 5.3 steals and 4.3 blocks per game.

- LeBron James (3 games): 29.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, 9.3 assists, 3.0 steals, and 2.0 blocks on 34-66 (51.5%) shooting.

- Mo Williams (3 games): 18.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists, with 3.3 three pointers made per game.

- Joe Smith (3 games): 8.0 points and 4.7 rebounds on 10-15 (66.7%) shooting.

Hopefully, with a game against one of the hottest teams in the NBA right around the corner, the Cleveland Cavaliers still have some home cookin' left.

One of the best stories of the season has been the strong trio of Mo Williams, LeBron James, and Zydrunas Ilgauskas. The "big three" have been solid this year, pushing the team to their 55th victory last night. Here's a look at their numbers from that game:

- LeBron James: 26 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists on 10-22 (45.5%) shooting.

- Zydrunas Ilgauskas: 21 points and 5 rebounds on 8-13 (61.5%) shooting.

- Mo Williams: 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists.

Here is the group's averages from this year, contrasted with the top three scorers on other teams:

- Cleveland (LeBron, Mo, Z): 59.9 points, 18.5 rebounds, and 12.3 assists per game.

- Boston (Pierce, Allen, KG): 55.3 points, 18.1 rebounds, and 9.0 assists per game.

- Lakers (Kobe, Pau, Bynum): 60.5 points, 23.0 rebounds, and 9.9 assists per game.

- Magic (Dwight, Lewis, Nelson): 55.5 points, 25.0 rebounds, and 9.0 assists per game.

- Spurs (Duncan, TP, Manu): 57.4 points, 18.3 rebounds, and 13.9 assists per game.

I think it's fairly safe to say, with the arrival of Mo Williams this season, that the Cleveland Cavaliers not only have a well-balanced cast to support LeBron James, but their own big three.

Wild Wild West.

On a wild Thursday night, the Cleveland Cavaliers gathered their 23rd win against the West this season. Here is a closer look at their body of work against the Western Conference this season:

- Record: 23-4.

- Cavaliers: 101.9 points per game on 47.0% shooting.

- Opponent: 93.7 points per game on 44.5% shooting.

- Defense: Cavs - 42.0 rebounds, 7.4 steals, and 5.3 blocks per game, OPP - 37.9 rebounds, 6.0 steals, and 5.1 blocks per game.

- Turnovers: Cavs - 11.6 per game (12.8 tpg against EC teams), OPP - 13.3 per game.

- LeBron James: 27.6 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 7.8 assists on 49.0% shooting (29.3, 7.1, and 7.0 against east)

Following the trend against the west, Mo Williams averages more points and assists against western conference teams, while Zydrunas Ilgauskas averages more points on 54.1% shooting (45.1% versus east).

Also worth noting, the Cleveland Cavaliers tied an NBA record last night with only two team turnovers in the entire game. The two turnovers was good enough to set a new record for fewest TO's in an overtime game as well. It should be noted, however, that the NBA didn't start to record turnovers until the 1978 season. Furthermore, Mo Williams and Joe Smith became the only NBA players to play on the two team teams tied for fewest turnovers in a game, the 2005-06 Milwaukee Bucks and the 2008-09 Cleveland Cavaliers. Here are their stats from those record-setting games:

- Mo Williams (2 games): 12.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.0 turnover.

- Joe Smith (2 games): 7.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 0.0 turnovers on 6-10 (60%) shooting.

Ultimately, Mo must have felt some sort of sentimental attachment to that 2005-06 Bucks team, as he committed the team's only two turnovers with the second turnover occurring with less than 20 seconds left in the game.

Lastly, it should be noted that Mike Brown recorded his 200th career win on that wild Thursday night. Now in his fourth season, Coach Brown has had at least 45 wins in each season, as his worst winning percentage in a season is 54.9%. With his 55th win on the season last night, Brown already has his most wins in a season with fourteen games to go. Also worth mentioning, Mike Brown is one of only three active coaches to get to the postseason and win the first round playoff series in all of their first three seasons. The other two coaches are Phil Jackson and Rick Carlisle. Congrats on the big night, Mike!

View from the other side:

- Former Buckeye star Greg Oden played a solid 12 minutes last night, scoring 7 points and grabbing 9 rebounds (4 offensive). In the season series he is averaging 8.5 points and 8.5 rebounds versus the Cavaliers. However, he is also averaging 5.5 fouls per game, fouling out of the first contest.

- Joel Pryzbilla recorded his third straight double-double in the game last night. Pryzbilla now has 10 double-doubles on the season, averaging a career high 8.6 rebounds per game.

You are slacking Cam. I expected this up earlier. I stayed up until like 4AM waiting for this.

Glad to see you giving props to Z still. I think with the addition of Mo, fans have forgotten about how important our 7 footer is to this team. He truly rounds out our BIG three.

Anyone else remember before the days of Damon Jones and Donyell Marshall when Z was far and away our best outside shooter? That's why those guys were added to this team. He's still a great shooter, but I'm glad we have Mo, Boobie, West, and Wally to knock down that outside J and we don't have to rely on our big man for all our outside scoring.

BTW: One of my all time favorite Cavs plays was the game winning 3 Z hit several years ago. Nobody was expecting that one:D

Hopefully next year we can add another dominant big and we can have the highest scoring frontcourt in the NBA again to go with our revamped backcourt.

Keep up the goodwork on these camakazee, I look forward to these after every game.
