Volunteering for special teams just part of package
By Patrick McManamon

BEREA - William Green called it a running back's dream.
``I haven't made a tackle since at least high school,'' he said Tuesday as he signed autographs after the Browns' morning practice.
But there was Green on Saturday against the Detroit Lions, racing downfield to make a tackle on punt coverage. It's rare for first-round picks to cover punts, and even rarer when the first-round pick is a running back.
Volunteering to play special teams is just one of many things Green has done right this camp.
While Lee Suggs and Reuben Droughns have struggled with ankle and hamstring injuries, Green has been steady. While 21 players who started a game last season have been sent packing, Green perseveres -- to the point that he has a better than decent shot to be the Browns' starting running back on opening day.
``I had to determine who they were, like they had to determine who I am,'' coach Romeo Crennel said. ``I met with him (in the spring) and told him I'd take it on face value and he would be evaluated on what he did from that point on.
``He's been responsible. He's been on time. He's done everything we've asked him to do. That's what I have to judge him on.''
