Kemp could become a nugget during the season the season word leaked out to the media that shawn “reign man” kemp was attempting a return to the nba.

This news was met with snickers from journalists and fans alike because of his drug problems and his weight problem as he had ballooned to over 340 pounds during his last stint in the league. This weekend kemp was denver at a free agent camp battling it out against rookies and fellow free agent players, a huge step down for the talented big man who was once a six time all-star and a member of dream team ii.

When asked what it’s like to be starting from scratch kemp told reporters in denver that, “it’s humbling, but it’s fun.” reading about kemp in the denver post i can’t help but think that his problems off the court have strengthened him as a man and as a basketball player. He now seems humble, patient and willing to do what needs to be done to play pro ball again.

When spears asked him later in the interview about his chances of playing again in the league, kemp told him that, “i’m a player with a history. Most teams, regardless to what the sport is, it scares them. … it scares them simply because they don’t want to wake up in the morning and read something, look and hear something. And that is what the situation is now.

The only thing i can say to teams is i’ve been playing basketball all my life, man, and the time i took off, i learned more in those two years than the previous 10.” kemp has since lost 70 pounds has regained the chiselled physique that he was known for in his time as a sonic. While there are doubts about his past denver could be the ideal fit because his previous coach, george karl, is the coach of the nuggets so kemp would have great support system already in place.

Throw into the mix that the team is trying to deal kenyon martin while nene, reggie evans and francisco elson are all free agents and it’s clear that there will be some minutes at the power forward position next year in the mile high city. The only question left is if his body has enough left in it at 36 years-old and numerous years of him abusing his body with drugs and alcohol and if the nuggets are willing to look past his previous indiscretions.
