CLEVELAND -- Cavaliers forward Ira Newble, who has yet to play this season because of a foot injury, will be sidelined for another four to six weeks.

Newble has had plantar fasciitis in his right foot since training camp.

On Friday, the 29-year-old player received high energy shockwave treatment on the foot in Pittsburgh, the Cavaliers said. The procedure was performed by Edward Snell, the Pirates' team doctor.

Newble made 69 starts for Cleveland last season. Regarded as one of the team's top defenders, he averaged 5.9 points and 3.0 rebounds.

The Cavaliers signed Newble as a free agent in 2003.

Not really a big deal since we have Hughes, Jackson and Pavlovic who can all fill in for him. He probably wouldn't get much time anyways with Luke and Sasha getting better every day.

Very disappointing news for newble and the Cavalier's. Whilst we are better served this season at the swing positions with Larry Hughes and a healthy Luke Jackson, depth and internal pressure is always handy. His injury has allowed Luke Jackson into the rotation which could possibly leave Newble in the cold full time when he recovers.

First thing first, I wish Newble well. A lot of players have been getting hurt in this young season and I hope everybody can make it back to speed. That said, Sasha and Luke will continue to hold down the fort in Newble's absence. If I were Luke or Aleksandar, I would strike now while the iron's hot. If they can continue to play well in the time Newble is out, that will all but eliminate Newble from the rotation. Ira hasn't been able to play or practice yet with our new team, nor learn the new sets. He's getting further and further behind.

Not a great loss. Like was said, the Cavs have solid depth at SF/SG so can get by without Ira. This is only a problem if another injury hits. Does give Luke and Sasha a better chance to get minutes which is actually a good thing.
If the Cavs had to suffer an injury I'd rather see it hit Newble than another key player.

I'm devestated....

I do miss the attitude Ira brought. Those hard fouls were good to watch. Marshall and henderson though did bring that to the table.

While we don't necessarily need him with Hughes doing well enough with the two youngins off the bench it'd be nice to be able to have the option of bringing in some defense off the bench.

Ira and AV will do nothing but add to this team once they come in. For now though, we seem to be doing fine without. Amazingly, this team has no dead weight 1-15. Marty is a project, no one is getting overpaid for years and not contributing, with everyone healthy, its some tough decisions on who gets put on the inactive list.

^^ yeah, dungong, it is scary to think about our bench last year and compare it to this year. I get the heebee-jeebees thinking about jmac (bench player?), diop, wags, and whiteboy on boston (naming him actually makes me ill), and oh wait, mr. harris (another "specialist" shooter we brought it)... Now when we are blowing a team out (think: every home game so far), all i can complain about is "why is donyell still in?" or "why are we still playing eric Yayo?"... u get the point: we are so deep this year that some stud has to be on the floor, even when we are up by 2 dimes... BUT, that being said, Newble can provide defense at the 2/3 that no other backup can. As long as he shoots the ball like he did at the end of last year, his +/- should still help the team if he can return HEALTHY.
