Pretty fun game to watch. Tons of hard hitting, on offense and defense. For example, this TD run by Wells was a thing of beauty:
I loved how the defender's head snapped back on that one.
Solid all around game. Kind of cool to see JT going for it on 4th down a few times, including that nifty fake punt. It's always nice when your specialists are athletes too. Good to see Beanie showing no ill effects from the ankle.
I think the thing I'm most pleased with, and I touched on it last week, is Ray Small. He looks great on punt returns. He didn't have any big gainers, but a couple times he made something out of nothing to pick up yards that otherwise were not there. That adds up. And you know eventually he's going to break one. And then they ran that reverse to him where he rounded the corner, kicked it into a higher gear the other players didn't have, changed the angle for the tackle, and broke for a big one. To have a game breaker like that is huge. He's showing Ted Ginn flashes. Having a guy like that who can change the angle is huge. Ginn used to do that. Mike Vick did that more than anyone at VT, and it made him so fun to watch. You'd see the defender would have the angle, Vick would kick it to another gear, and just blow by the defender. No moves to make him miss, just acceleration. Pretty exciting. Hopefully they can get Small involved in the passing game more. At the very least start throwing some WR screens to get the ball in his hands in space. He's still coming back from injury, so the best is yet to come.
On the down side, we missed another kick, with that extra point blocked. Pisses me off. At some point this year a game is going to come down to a FG or extra point, and I have no confidense in that part of the team.
