while I was at lunch I was watching NBA fast break and they did a take off on a state of the union address.

under things that should be changed Legler mentioned to do away with the divisional format. his reasoning was you don't play anyone in your division any more times then the rest of the conference so it doesn't really form any great rivalries. he says just let everyone fight it out for 1 thru 8 instead of having NJ be a three seed because they won their division even though they have a horrible record.

I actually tend to agree.

I agree, it's a good point. The Craplantic Division is horrible and no one should be able to make the playoffs with a sub-.500 record.

One thing with scheduling, I think that teams should play their own division a few more times, maybe at the expense of not playing the other conference quite as much/not every year. For instance, the Central division could play the Northwest one year, then the Southwest the next, then the Pacific the third. That would free up 20 more games, which you could instead play each team in your division 5 more times. The whole travel thing leads to shit basketball, due to tired teams. In my world you do one road trip out west/east, and that's it. More home and home back to backs vs the division would be great. Play Detroit in Detroit, then back to cleveland. Help build the rivalries between teams in localities a bit more.

RHF's proposed "makes f'n sense" schedule change.

Vs Opposite conference 10 games
Vs Same Division 32 games(4 home, 4 away)
Vs Other two divisions in conference 40 games(2 home 2 away)

Then wouldn't some teams in the East bitch about having to play tougher Western conference teams while others got an easier schedule? And how would you split the home and away games against the West? The easiest way to make it fair is to play every Western conference team twice, once at home and once on the road.

Overall I like the set-up of the NBA but I think Legs is onto something when he says get rid of the divisions within the conference. The rivalries will still be there based on geography and good teams vs. good teams.

Teams like the Cavs Wizards and Pistons would suffer because they'd all have to play eachother more times and the the less sucky team in the Atlantic would have a much easier time than our division.
