Stoudamire, Diaw and Horry Suspended

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Hilarious...Let me make a quick observation..

Multiple races in this series...it's essentially the world cup of the NBA...

Duncan (Virgin Islands)
Ginobili (Argentina)
Barbosa (Brazil)
Oberto (Argentina)
Parker (France)
Diaw (France)
Nash (Canada)
Jalen(Michigan)
Udrih (Yugoslavia)
Elson (Netherlands)

Yet there is but one foreign player suspended...and guess from what country...France :chuckles: The cowards of the world and he is part of the scuffle...didn't see it because I think San Antonio is the boringest team in the league so Diaw could have been running onto the court only to run to locker room..honestly I have trouble even when they play the Cavs staying away..just funny to me.

I can agree with the Sports Guy blog today..Here is a bit.

Let's say you're one of the best seven players on the Phoenix Suns. You love Nash -- he's your emotional leader, your meal ticket to the Finals, the ideal teammate and someone who makes you happy to play basketball every day for a living. He's killing himself to win a championship. His nose was split open in Game 1.

His back bothers him to the point that he has to lie down on the sidelines during breaks. He's battling a real cheap-shot artist (Bruce Bowen) who's trying to shove and trip him on every play. But he keeps coming and coming, and eventually, everyone follows suit. Just as things were falling apart in Game 4 and you were staring at the end of your season, he willed you back into the game and saved the day.

Suddenly, he gets body-checked into a press table for no real reason on an especially cheap play. You're standing 20 feet away. Instinctively, you run a few steps towards the guy who did it -- after all, your meal ticket is lying on the court in a crumpled heap -- before remembering that you can't leave your bench. So you go back and watch everything else unfold from there. Twenty-four hours later, you get suspended for Game 5 because your instincts as a teammate kicked in for 1.7 seconds.

Think about how dumb this is. What kind of league penalizes a teammate for reacting like a good teammate after his franchise player just got decked? Imagine you're playing pickup at a park, you're leading a game 10-3, your buddy is driving for the winning layup, and and some stranger clotheslines your buddy from behind and knocks him into the metal pole. Do you react? Do you take a couple of steps towards him? I bet you do. For the NBA to pretend they can create a fairy-tale league where these reactions can be removed from somebody's DNA -- almost like a chemical castration -- I mean, how stupid is that?

It's rediculous Tim Duncan wasn't suspended too though. He stepped on the court. I don't see why David Stern is so rediculous. He plays favorites. Look at Tm Duncan for example... double T (it was ludacris) and the ref gets suspended. Stephen Jackson gets a double T for clapping (ludacris) and nothing happens. They were T'ing up everyone on the Warriors (ludacris) against the Jazz and nothing happens. Duncan steps on the court and he's fine, but Amare steps on and he's suspended for 1 game...

Why does this guy keep talking about a rapper named Ludacris? :chuckles: :chuckles: Was he there?

Well when then the NBA scraps this rule in the offseason, we will see a procession of incidents with teams leaving the benches to "protect" the player fallen in an incident. It wont lead to anything positive.

I didn't see Horry after knocking him down, try and go back at Nash. So why did Nash need rescueing?

If his team mates on the floor come to his aid as they were, the Spurs are in trouble in this series, with a rotation player gone for 2 games with the Suns holding home court advantage.

Nash was in no danger after the shot, but now he is in danger of losing this series.

They only have themselves to blame.

I think the Suns ot jobbed here. Look, a substitute big man takes (yet another ) cheap shot at the opposing teams All star and MVP point guard. This after several attempts already to take nash out. Horry does this with intention just like Bowen. Yeah Amare gets up. No way does he deserve a suspension. IMO Horry is out for the season and half of next. It isn't that the foul was a punch, but it was calculated to injure a key player on the other team. Its bad for basketball. Stern is an accomplice for taking out Amare and Diaw. The penalty to Horry is not big enough to prevent a repeat. Hell he's being high fived by every Spur right this minute because he practically guarantees a win in phoenix tonight single handedly.

If Stern wants to keep Amare on the bench he has to protect players like nash from cheap shots. the refs have lost control of the series. Bad decision Mr. Stern.

There best player gets decked into the scores table.. Come on now. It wasn't a light foul at all.. Especially when the game is pretty much over. All I can say is the Spurs play dirty.

24-11 Suns.. Let go SUNS!

I have seen many fouls worse. We were all saying Mikkie Moore's foul was worse. It was a cheap shot and got a 2 game suspension. Fair play by the NBA. The Suns only have themselves to blame for the other suspensions.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter if it was Steve Nash or Sean Marks getting hit. A foul is a foul. Cant change the rules every time something controversial happens.

So your saying if your on a team and your star player.. the guy who makes you what you are gets a cheap shot (clearly trying to hurt the guy) you do nothing? Hard to believe.

Also if the rule is you can't cross the line at all (not sure on the rule) then Duncan should be tossed as well.

There are 4 team mates on the floor, 3 officials to do something. I can understand the players getting upset and moving toward the incident. But there are clear rules, and Diaw and Stoudamire charged towards the area which if let go could have imflamed it into a fight. Duncan barely moved.

Still is the rule saying you can't cross the line? If so that's bs.

But I understand. But in the heat of the moment and you see that play you would most likely do the same. I know there are rules but they didn't throw punches or anything. So I really see no need for the suspension but thats not my call.

Karma it's easy as a 3rd party observer to say what your saying and be politically correct and abide by the rules. However in the heat of the moment, you want to diffuse the situation, protect your player/players.

3 officials eh? All of them run about 5'8" a 150lbs and are upwards of 50 years old...do you honestly think they stand a chance against guys 6'2" at the minimum in peak physical condition and ranging anywhere from 200-300 lbs?

Exactly..those 3 officials are non-factors during a fight, they can puff on the whistle as many times as they want but they can and will be brushed aside like gnats..

If Nash gets hurt on that play it's also not a 5 on 5 scuffle it's 5 on 4...I'd like to see someone deck one of your teammates/close friends and you stand there and wait for someone else to handle it. In theory it's easy to say, in the situation it's completely different.

It's a bogus rule and things of this nature should be handled on a case by case basis...it's lazy and ignorant to have a set rule for a fight. If Stephen Jackson is pummeling Jerry Stackhouse and no one can break it up, and Diop comes on and finally stops it..should he be penalized a game for trying to do the right thing?

The NBA should assess the motives of the players leaving their benches...if a guy comes running and shoving the other team and escalating the fight...then punish him how you see fit. If he runs out to act as a barrier between guys and tries to diffuse the situation then look at it as a non punishable act. It's just a stupid rule altogether.

Nash has heart. He is an incredible NBA player.

That foul was weak, there was no way Horry was intending to hurt Nash on the play.

Fact of the matter is, Nash sold that just like any soccer player sells a foul. He was barely even touched, there was some hip action but at worse it was a Flagrant 1.

The real injustice is Horry being suspended for two games for such a weak foul.

Jeff Van Gundy is a fun guy to listen to cover a game...

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT JON BARRY

Says the former coach of the player...Barry goes silent :chuckles:

Duncan was on the court playing so he could have gone as far as he wanted.

Rules are rules. NBA now has the chance to change it should they believe necessary.

Was Nash in any danger? Did Horry do anything but hip check him?

No to both.

I understand in the heat of the battle you want to protect your team mate. I play sport. I have been king hit and also the "3rd guy in" to protect a team mate. I also know if there are 4 team mates on the floor, there is no need to charge a mile away for something that wasn't that bad.

At the end of the day, the better team won. Phoenix only have themselves to blame. They are good to watch, but again aren't playing in June.
