Trade Whispers : Gooden to New Jersey

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Put this is another way:

Do you guys realy want to face the Nets with a lineup of Kristic, Gooden, RJ, VC, and Kidd? Not me: this trade would be a blatant give away

nba teams don't trade starting power forwards for wing players or point guards, or bench role players. it just doesn't happen. not even elgin baylor makes that trade. so the question is does new jersey have a starting center or power forward that the cavs would accept straight up for drew? i don't see it.

we will resign drew because he is our best option at power forward. he will cost us about nine million dollars a year for five years. that is overpaying a bit, but we are not spending that money to keep gooden as much as we are spending the moohlah to keep james from leaving for other digs.

we have only one other realistic option and that is to package drew and z for a big and a point guard - maybe camby and andre miller. that might work, but that leave's us mighty thin inside.

the reality that danny faces is that with snow and jones and marshall locked up for the next several years, we don't have much in the way of flexiblity when it comes to roster moves. that is the trouble with getting good, but not great. you start to bump up against the salary cap ceiling. Lebron will be great while the pieces around him age and wither like grapes rotting on the vine. Lebron will be too good to let the team sink down to the depths of dispair, but that will only keep us from having a shot at a top draft player. if only Lebron had gotten injured last year we could have made it to the lottery and gotten lucky and drafted chris paul. then we would not have had to sign damon jones and could have used those dollars on some size. instead we played too good to get a lot of ping pong balls and that kept us from getting a top pick and that insures that we will be mediocre for the unforseeable future. without another top level player to pair with Lebron, we cannot expect to win more than one playoff series. when was the last time we won more than one playoff series. when wilkins was the coach?

we didn't have a pick last year regardless. in order to trade for jiri we had to take off the lottery protection, so lebron getting hurt would not have gotten us chris paul.

Drew Gooden himself has already been traded for a wing...Mike Miller.
