This is a list of some of the movies I am really looking forward to:

What Doesn't Kill You
killu.jpg

Based on events from director Brian Goodman’s life, WHAT DOESN’T KILL YOU, stars Mark Ruffalo (Brian) and Ethan Hawke (Paulie), as friends who grew up like brothers on the gritty streets of south Boston. They do whatever it takes to survive, living by the code of their dog-eat-dog neighborhood. Petty crimes and misdemeanors grow into more serious offenses and eventually, they fall under sway to organized crime boss Pat Kelly (played by Goodman).

Early buzz on this is phenomenal, it was reviewed as the best at the Toronto film festival and said to follow the growing list of great crime dramas set in Boston. It features two excellent and underrated actors, Mark Ruffalo and Ethan Hawke and if you aren't as familiar with Ruffalo as you are with Hawke, I highly suggest seeing some of his movies. He is one of the best in his generation and he doesn't get enough credit. This movie is being distributed by a small Indie company which is why you probably haven't heard much about it.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
button.jpg

"I was born under unusual circumstances." And so begins Benjamin Button, adapted from the classic 1920s story by F. Scott Fitzgerald about a man who is born in his eighties and ages backwards. A man, like any of us, unable to stop time. We follow his story set in New Orleans from the end of World War I in 1918, into the twenty-first century, following his journey that is as unusual as any man's life can be. Directed by David Fincher and starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett with Tilda Swinton, Taraji P. Henson, Jason Flemyng, Elias Koteas and Julia Ormond, Benjamin Button, is a time traveler's tale of the people and places he bumps into along the way, the loves he loses and finds, the joys of life and the sadness of death, and what lasts beyond time.

This is going to be a major player in Oscar discussions as early indications have Brad Pitt a virtual lock for a nomination in a more low key performance that one critic mentioned is "All in the eyes". This could end up being the best movie of them all come Academy Awards time.

Revolutionary Road

REV.jpg

A young couple living in a Connecticut suburb during the mid-1950s struggle to come to terms with their personal problems while trying to raise their two children. Based on a novel by Richard Yates.

This is not the best trailer that I have ever seen, as it is only a glimpse into the movie but if you are familiar with Sam Mendes (American Beauty) then you know it won't just be your typical suburban family love story. Critics are saying that Leo is definitely going to be up for another oscar nod (no surprise there).

ive been waiting for that Brad Pitt movie to come out looks amazing. What doesn't kill you looks very intresting. I love watching movies noone has heard of , and that isn't over hyped just because the actors in it. What about Valkyrie (sp?) ? That looks nice too.

The only reason that Valkyrie isn't in my must see list is that it has been delayed for so long and that is usually a bad omen. Also, I hate the fact that Tom Cruise doesn't attempt a German accent. I know it's not realistic for a German to be speaking English in the first place but I still can't really get in to it when Cruise clearly sounds like an American.

Agreed. They should have gone German with English subtitles IMHO. Something like what Apocolypto did. But even speaking English with a German accent would be better than no attempt at all. It just seems less authentic like this.

Is that even based on a true store?

Also I'm so done with World War 2 movies, there's way too many of them.

First Look: Jean Claude Van Damme in Full Love

October 13, 2008

This might be the weekend that Jean Claude Van Damme truly makes a comeback. We ran the official trailer for JCVD over the weekend, which has garnered an enthusiastic response, and now we've got some photos of JCVD in yet another film. Full Love is Van Damme's latest project that he wrote, directed, and is starring in along with his two children, Kristopher and Bianca Van Varenberg. Apparently there isn't an official plot available, but it's described as "based on a true story, based in another reality" and "about love, friendship, and dedication." Thanks to Twitch, we've got our first look at Van Damme in the film.

There are a few more photos that can be found over on Twitch. I've featured the best of the batch below for your viewing pleasure. Does this look like it could potentially be an interesting feature film?

I don't want to start making claims that Jean Claude Van Damme has completely reinvented himself, but so far he's doing a great job. JCVD is, as I said before, a very entertaining movie. And these photos alone have already sold me on seeing Full Love. I hope we find out more about this project soon, because I'm curious to see whether Van Damme is actually a good director or not. He actually directed his own 1996 film The Quest, but I don't think too many people liked that movie. Although there's only a handful of people who have seen JCVD, I'm wondering whether I'm alone in my excitement for Van Damme's potential comeback?

I heard JCVD is good.

This is a little off topic, but why don't they make world war 1 movies? Or World War 2 movies with the Russians take. They always showcase the bad things Hitler did, but never Stalin.

First review of Valkyrie doesn't come off positively.

After a long takeoff, "Valkyrie" finally takes flight as a thriller in its second half but never soars very high. Bryan Singer's long-awaited account of the near-miss assassination of Adolf Hitler by a ring of rebel German army officers on July 20, 1944, has visual splendor galore, but is a cold work lacking in the requisite tension and suspense. This second production from Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner at United Artists will do better than the first, "Lions for Lambs," but is a decidedly odd choice for Christmas Day release, and looks destined for just so-so commercial returns.

Splitz the trailer for that movie looks horrible, I don't know why anyone would want to go see that.
