The USC football program will receive two-year postseason ban, a reduction in scholarships and a forfeiture of wins from at least the 2004 season when the NCAA releases it sanctions on Thursday, a source told ESPN's Shelley Smith.

ESPN the Magazine's Bruce Feldman confirms the two-year postseason ban and a reduction in scholarships from a second USC source.

USC will respond Thursday to the NCAA's findings following its investigation into possible violations by the Trojans' football and men's basketball programs, a source with direct knowledge of the situation told ESPN's Joe Schad.

There is no press conference scheduled for Thursday. According to an SID at USC, the school would issue a statement in response to any NCAA announcement addressing penalties. A different source had said earlier in the day that the school would have a press conference following the NCAA announcement.

The NCAA infractions committee held a hearing in February in which USC presented its responses to allegations of NCAA violations. Results of the report have been expected for several weeks.

USC football players will be informed about the sanctions at a mandatory meeting Thursday morning, a source told Feldman.

Once released, USC would have a chance to appeal.

USC already admitted wrongdoing with the basketball program and sanctioned itself, including a ban on postseason participation, a reduction of scholarships and vacating all of its wins from 2007-08.

The school's football team is under investigation for its dealing with Heisman Trophy-winning running back Reggie Bush, who played at the school from 2003-2005. Bush also won the 2005 Heisman; if he is found retroactively ineligible, the Heisman Trust could strip him of his 2005 Heisman Trophy.

The NCAA and investigators from the Pac-10 Conference have tried to determine whether Bush and his parents took improper benefits, including an alleged rent-free residence provided by a sports marketer. Bush has not met with NCAA and Pac-10 investigators and has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.

USC chose to contest the allegation against the football program, hoping to overcome the perception of a lack of institutional control, which could result in significant sanctions, including scholarship reductions, TV and postseason bans, recruiting restrictions and probation.

If USC is found guilty of major violations, the NCAA also could rule that the Trojans are "repeat violators." Per NCAA rules, "An institution shall be considered a 'repeat' violator if the Committee on Infractions finds that a major violation has occurred within five years of the starting date of a major penalty."

The athletic program was last sanctioned in August of 2001.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Good. Cheating bastards.

Edit: If by imbed you mean put in quotes, you can add a quote tag to it.

Will look like this.

It sucks that the real culprits are no longer with the organization and innocent student athletes are going to be punished.

:thisguy: I wonder if any players will transfer due to this, they shouldn't be punished but idk what the alternate punishment would be.

Pete Caroll is laughing right now.

Here you cut and past the actual text (not the link).

As for the article, it's always kinda sucked that the people that should get punished are always long gone when the hammer drops. It is no coincidence that Pete Carroll bolted USC this past offseason. It was obvious that USC was going to get punished. I was particularly disturbed by Bush's non chalant attitude to the whole situation. He pretty much doesn't care that his school is suffering now. That's a shame. USC gave him a vehicle to living the life he's living now and he should be far more appreciative. Carroll and Bush are both the classic definitions of a weasel.

Anyone that thinks that the coaching staff and athletic department as a whole didn't know about some or all of the stuff going on with Bush, Mayo and the rest is kidding themselves. USC is getting punished, along with the current student athletes, because the programs lacked institutional control.

The fact that the AD, Garrett, thinks the penalty is so severe because of envy, is so laughable. How that man has a job still is one of the greatest accomplishments in college sports in the last decade.

You betcha some will. OSU may be a big benefactor of this mess. I know we missed out of some top recruits to USC this year. I'm thinking those recruits are pretty damn pissed off about now and might request that transfer to OSU.

OSU has only one schollie left. After NSD they had 2, but Archie's son, who was going to be a preferred walk-on, got one instead. Of course, that number would only apply to current jrs and srs.

As far as guys who would have to sit a year, OSU has most of their scholarships spoken for in terms of committed or soon to be committed HS kids. Don't expect a windfall (not that I wouldn't welcome it).

Only juniors and seniors can leave right away.

But some small schools could really benefit from this, Mitch Mustain is a good QB that should get out of there and goto a mid major and blow up.

Of course there are others as well, but if I was a junior or senior, Id be outta there asap.

PAC-10 won't allow them to transfer to other Pac 10 schools though....

well SC has dropped the hammer on itself .... Mike Garrett is gone. I think his attitude really allowed a lot of this shit to happen. SC had one person create major violations and instead of Garrett saying what Bush had done was wrong, dude goes and say that they're envious? Arrogance at its best.

I'm glad he's out of there and they brought in former SC QB Pat Haden. Everything Bush will be taken away from the school and I know it's going to hurt Bush knowing that he's stained USC and is basically no longer welcomed.

Hopefully we can rebound from this. Two year ban for eight years of dominance; I think most universities would take that in a heartbeat.
