WANTED: Cheap car to get me back and forth

College kid looking for cheap transportation...pretty much looking for something that can just get my to and from work/school

i have a imac g5, samsung captivate, and a Acer Aspire 5515 laptop

My best suggestions, check craigslist in your area. Don't trade items for a car, it's not worth it, and it'll just bite you in the ass in the end.

My personal suggestion is to have the family ask around church groups, work, etc. There's always some old couple ready to get rid of an older car for dirt cheap that has little to no miles on it.

By all means, it's not a great car, but I bought a 98 Dodge Neon off an old lady at a church group who was getting rid of her hubby's car after he passed away. Total cost to me, $400. The car only had 42k miles on it.

Like X said, ask around your family, friends, and people you work with and people that they know. Church groups will usually give you a pretty good deal. Just be sure to check under the hood or have someone come with you who knows a thing or two about cars and knows what to look for and check if something is wrong. I bought a 96 Maxima off of a guy I work with for 600, and I've driven the hell out of it so far with no problems.


Be careful with craigslist and autotrader, though. Definitely some false advertising and whatnot going on on both of those sites.

got a 2003 impala for 3000, with 150k miles on it from a co-worker. car is in great shape, takes a pounding and keeps on going. I have put 20k miles on the car in 10 months. I have no doubt it will last till 200k miles.

Damn, man, I wish you would have posted this like 10 days or so ago.... A student who lives in my building was leaving to go back to India for his studies and needed to sell everything-- he had like a 2003 or 2004 Ford Focus for like $800.00.... Car was in phenomenal shape...
