I have Slingbox (for the last year as well) and I'm fairly satisfied with the results, although I can't say if you would.
Since I'm stuck in Rochester and my family stays in Solon, I got all the Cavs I could ask for for every season until we move to Florida (which I will hate unless I get to see all my Cavs games...), cable box in Cleveland connected to my computer (please forgive me if I sound a little spoiled, but my work ethic has given me permission to use the box, lucky me...).
The quality of the feed won't satisfy you if you're looking for an identical look that you would see on regular TV (and not HD), but if you can get over that, you'll find that you'll be able to see the score well enough, and players are identifiable as well as each play ran by the two teams. It does get a little blurry from time to time but then things will clear up rather quickly (2-5 seconds quick). If you have an excellent connection, there isn't too much delay so you won't miss anymore than regular TV viewers. But make sure you get the good connection while ensuring the boxes work functionally.
I really could care less about TV or even high definition, so this isn't rocket science for me, but it's different for everybody and their interests.
BTW, you can connect a sling box to a tivo/dvr type of box. You can still record the normal way, which I have done for the last year now. I just don't give a crap about recording the games themselves since I feel it's worthless in my case and I can find other ways to get my insight and knowledge from games.
I hope my Slingbox information could help you decide, even though I never had much of a choice to begin with...
