As a former EMT, with a background in public health, and currently a med student, I"m a bit biased, but here it is...
We're one of the wealthiest nations, but also one of the unhealthiest nations. Why is it that we develop fancy-pants procedures to cure illness, but we can't do simple things to prevent them?
Low taxes are great for business, but not for health. And I'm not just talking about the crazy number of uninsured individuals, but more importantly, the rising cost of healthcare.
You legitimately tell me how the market can promote population health and I'll rep you. In the end, we could continue to have low taxes, but if over 30% of tax-payer dollars are going to treat the increasing number of chronically ill individuals suffering from preventable conditions, we all lose. Someone needs to fix healthcare and needs to do it fast, or my generation is screwed. In my opinion, true healthcare innovation needs to be more equitable than it currently is. Something tells me tax cuts won't really do the trick.
