Will Ira Waltz Back In?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

Coach Brown has made it quite clear ... he lacks confindense in Pavlovic and Jackson.

Sasha defensively is missing plays, whilst Luke freezes with the ball. Tonight I do not understand why he gave one 5 minutes and the other 4.

The way I see it is Ira Newble, .......will come straight into the rotation ....He is a ready made role player. This is what Luke and Sasha are not!

Karma, agree with what you said above ...also confused by his use of Sasha and Luke in the LA game ...1st time he's really had a confused player rotation in a game this season ....something that was a norm to experience with Silas, but has been refreshingly missing from our in-game coaching this season ...

I've stated b4 in posts that I'd heard 'they'.., (Brown/Ferry).., were planning on using Luke and Sasha, in extended stretches of games, where they were included in the rotation. That they wanted to give them both an equal chance with consistent playing time to show what they can do so they can make an educated appraisal of their respective games, so they can ultimately make the most prudent move in a player transaction, when that time comes ...

I still see that happening ...probably about now ....where Pavs can get some time in the rotation b4 Newble eventually anchors down that spot in the rotation for the 2nd half of the season, and into the playoffs.

I think what basically happened in the LA game was that it was Brown's pregame plan to begin giving the rotation minutes to Sasha ...but, in a tight and competitive game ...in the 2nd half ....when the competitive juices were in maximum flow, and after watching Pavs mess up defensively in the 1st half in the brief stretch of minutes he was out there ...he decided to just go with the guy he felt would do the better job at that point in the 2nd half instead of stick with his pregame plan of giving those minutes to Pavs.

That's my guess, anyways. And may give you an idea of just where Mike Brown's player evaluation may be leaning, at this point.

But, I clearly agree with you ...that Newble is most defintiely the best guy for that role on the team this season....and he will be getting all those minutes later on in the season.

I would also want to mention that, from what I know from conversations I've had with Campy on the subject ....and what he gathers from his chats with Danny and others in the organization is that Ferry may lean a little more towards Pavlovic in liking his long range potential as a player, but that Mike Brown may see it differently ....he may see in Luke ...a guy that fits what he wants from that spot in the rotation moreso than Pavlovic.

Time will tell ...but that's my feel for the situation based on what I see personally, and has been related to me in my few conversations I've had with Campy.

So take it for what it's worth ...but that's basically how the situation will hsake out as time passes this season....

I agree that Newble will probably go right into the rotation when he gets back. Brown seems to be showing some Silas like tendencies by refusing to give players like Luke and Sasha a complete chance and playing LeBron and Hughes practically the entire game in the last week or so.
I'm not sure either Luke or Sasha will ever develop here being behind LeBron and Hughes. The minutes just aren't going to be there for them and you wonder if they will ever be allowed to get the needed time to play through some mistakes, learn and develop. I do think Luke has a better chance to stick around and develop into a role that helps the team off the bench. I don't think a complete judgment can be made of him yet since he hasn't even played in 30 games in his career and was hurt all last year.
Who knows? Maybe neither will develop into a consistent player. I haven't seen enough to know for sure and they haven't played consistently or enough to really let us know.

Newble is a decent role player. He's a solid defender but not as great has he's been made out to be. His shooting seemed to return some towards the end of last season so hopefully that will continue. I think his veteran status will make Brown give him the nod for the backup SG/SF minutes.

If, Ira comes back, and pretty much is going to be guaranteed the minutes, then one of the young rejects HAVE to be traded. Just not enough minutes to go around.

Ira will be getting the minutes back. Ira is a poorman's bruce bowens, not much offense and not as great defense but still tough and can shoot the three decently(40% last 2 months of the season). Hopefully Ira continues to hit his open shots like he did last yr and play tough defense because this was the thing missing.

Last year it was either Ira or Harris, which one would of you have started? Newble helped us win games when we took out harris, he was our spark. I really like Newble off the bench backing up Lebron and Hughes because of experience.

Narl how is he pulling a silas when they have Lebron and larry hughes ahead of them? Both players have had fair chances to prove themselves. Sasha had first crack, it didnt work out. Then luke had ample time to prove himself. Didint quite work, so sasha gets another chance, again foul prone and didnt warrant any attention on the court.

Ira is a much better defender than either player and he can hit open jump shots. What he isnt good at is creating his own shot. Luckily for him we have plenty of other players to do this for him and he knwos that.

Tyguy,
I was referring to Brown playing LeBron 44, 44, and 50 minutes the past 3 games. Hughes also has been playing over 40. Silas also rode certain players hard and didn't trust or give consistent minutes to certain bench players. I thought we were told LeBron's minutes were going to be cut. The only reason his average minutes might be down at this point is because of the early season blowouts the Cavs had where Brown could sit him late in the game.
I also meant that having 2 young players with potential behind LeBron and Hughes should mean that you don't have to play them these type of heavy minutes and can give the young players some consistent time on the floor to give Hughes and LeBron the needed rest to keep them in top form all season and in the playoffs. Hughes injury history also makes it a risk to continue to play him over 40 a night. The Cavs aren't winning a championship this season. I believe you can still play to win while trying to develop some of your young players.

I don't think that Jackson playing 3-12 minutes and not even appearing in 30 games yet in his career has been ample time to prove himself and to find out exactly what he can do for the Cavs.
Jackson seems to get some bashing but I have yet to see this season where his presence in the game has caused the Cavs to be ineffective.

The opposite is true. Jackson has in several games been the moral equivalent of what Varejo was last year. He is not getting it done pretty, but he has made up for that in energy and hustle plays. Thats really the difference between Luke and Pavs. BUT eventually Luke has to develop a consistant shot under pressure at the NBA level to really make the cut.
