Wrong way Ricky drops his grudge

By Steve Bulpett/ Celtics Notebook

Ricky Davis acknowledged yesterday there was a time when a game in Cleveland against his old team was more than just a Celtics thing. There was personal stuff involved.

“It was, you know, go back and try to cut their heads off,” said Davis, who will try to help the Celts achieve their first two-game win streak of the season tonight. “But it’s fun now. It’s in the past. They’ve switched up their whole thing over there, so I think we’ll just go in there and try to win the game.”

That’s just more evidence that things have changed with Davis, who leads the Celts with 6.1 assists per game.

“I’ve never met the old Ricky,” coach Doc Rivers said. “This is the Ricky I know, and he’s been good. He’s been doing what we say. Sometimes he gets out of that, and we get on him about it.

“The great part about Ricky compared to what I had heard is he hears us, and he tries. That doesn’t mean he does it well every time, but he tries to do it. That’s all I can ask for.”

Collective effort

Rivers has decided on who gets to guard LeBron James.
“The whole team,” he said. “You’ve got to think with guys like LeBron and Paul Pierce and a bunch of other guys, coaches and teams figure out all practice how to stop them, and then he has 30.

“We obviously have to focus on LeBron, but we have to focus on all their guys. They’ve changed their team. They’re a great shooting team. (Damon) Jones is making shots, Donyell Marshall is making shots, (Zydrunas) Ilgauskas is making shots, Larry Hughes is making shots. It’s not just LeBron anymore. They’re more difficult to guard.”

In addition to Pierce and Davis, Justin Reed likely will get a good shot at James. Yesterday, the second-year swingman was being matter-of-fact in response to the assignment.

“Oh, come on man, don’t get all modest for these cameras,” Pierce said. “Be yourself.”

Get on the glass

All the talk about James and shooters is nice, but the Celtics believe they will have to win the battle on the boards to defeat the 8-2 Cavaliers. With Drew Gooden pulling in 9.2 rebounds a game and Ilgauskas and Marshall at 8.4 and 8.0, respectively, Cleveland is among the best rebounding teams in the league.

“I think that’s the biggest focus,” Rivers said. “All of them rebound. We have an advantage a lot of nights at the guard position because our guards are great rebounders. Well, (tonight) we won’t. It’ll be even.” . . .

The C’s officially announced their new alternate uniform yesterday. They’ll wear the green and black outfits for the first time Friday night.

“I think they’re great,” Pierce said. “I think it’s about time. I don’t know if it’s breaking tradition or whatever, but it is 2005-2006 and it was bound to happen.”

He's trying to play it off as respect, but he's still a smacktard. I'm going tonight, I can't wait to see the Cavs sucker punch Ricky's ego yet again.

I think Snow will hound the wiry rook PG Delonte West all night, and they won't be able to get anything going. We outmatch them at every position except SG, and Larry can disrupt enough not to worry about it. They'll probably have to resort to LaFrentz bombing from outside and Gooden will have to chase him around until Marshall comes in.

As much as I would like to say that they suck,...well they do, but I still don't want to be overconfident and predict a blowout. I hope we win. I am going to the game too. I was at the game last year when Ricky first came back to the GUND, and everyone would BOO as hard as they could whenever Ricky touched the ball. Ahh, the great times.

Here it is a WIN!

Oh what might have been! How good would a team-oriented Ricky Davis look coming off the bench as the Cavs' sixth man? I know, I know, Cleveland wasn't big enough for him and Lebron, but watching his game and personality mature does make you think Oh, what might have been.

Davis gave us Battie, Battie gave us Drew and AV

I was always a fan of Ricky D. He contributed so much to the community. Also, when the cavs were horrible, he was the ONLY player that stayed for over an hour after games, signing eveyrthing thrown his way, taking pictures, giving his shoes away, etc... I think his ego took a huge hit when Bron was here. I hate the Celtics but I have no qualms with Ricky D. Pierce on the other hand is a different matter

Snoopy, that is a funny ass sig. lol. I see all the LeBron clips all the time, but I never see one with "OWNED" in it. So simple, yet so funny. lol

thanks. I had some guy from here make it for me...Ben is his name??? Anyways, I love the owned aspect of any cool pic so I asked him if he could add it to an animation. Sure enough, he came through in the clutch like Pippen

I am the Browns section Moderator in here. lol

Why don't you stop by the "Real Browns Fans" section and drop your 2 cents sometime.

Ya, I guessed that Ben did that for u because of the signature RCF URL at the bottom of every clip. I just assumed that you added that "OWNED" yourself. Ben made me the Damon Jones leg kick sig too.

haha nice! I will definately show up there. Damn, i have too many sites to go to now. Anyways, where is the browns forum???

even if a team sucked if u have players like ricky and pierce and their on then its practically impossible for a blowout.im mainly worried about pierce and lafrentz taking our big men to the perimeter.delonte west has a pretty nice shot too so we got to be at the top of our game tonight.

Davis keeps his cool

CLEVELAND – Based on his recent history as a Celtic, Ricky Davis tends to turn his already hyperactive nature up another notch when returning to play against his former team.

Though there were certainly remnants of that behavior left in Davis’ 27-point, five-turnover performance during the Celtics’ 115-93 loss last night, for the most part the swingman kept himself in check.

This happened despite constant booing when he touched the ball and heckling while he was on the bench. Beyond directing an impassioned “Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah” at the stands after burying a third-quarter trey, though, Davis seemed fine with the attention.

“I was just playing ball – catching it in the flow of the game,” he said. “Hearing that stuff just makes you work that much harder. It’s great. You just have to have the concentration over the sustained boos and jeers and just go out there and play basketball.”

Doc Rivers may have created a solution last night – preventative counseling.

“We talked to him about it before the game,” Rivers said. “He didn’t press at all tonight, but he has in the past. Tonight he really tried to work himself into the game. I actually had to tell him to be more aggressive.”
