Not long after trading for Aaron Williams, the Hornets have sent two 2nd round draft picks for center Steven Hunter. Phili then signed former Cavalier front court towel waver Zendon Hamilton to replace Hunter.

Was just gonna post this. Here is the article from espn.com:

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Philadelphia 76ers traded center Steven Hunter to the New Orleans Hornets on Wednesday for two second-round draft picks.

It's the Hornets' second trade in a 24-hour span in an attempt to reinforce their front line following the dismissal of forward Chris Andersen last week for violating the NBA's drug policy.

"We were real small," coach Byron Scott said at the team's shootaround. "We've gotten bigger in a matter of minutes."

Hunter, a 7-footer, is averaging 4.9 points and 3.4 rebounds in 35 games with the 76ers this season. A first-round pick by Orlando in 2001, he played three seasons with the Magic and one with Phoenix before signing with Philadelphia as a free agent before this season.

"We're excited. We bring in another athlete, a 7-foot athlete, 24 years old who runs and jumps and does a lot of the things that we want here," Scott said. "I think he'll fit in extremely well."

The Hornets are giving up their 2006 and 2007 second-round picks and will also receive cash considerations from Philadelphia.

To replace Hunter, the Sixers signed journeyman Zendon Hamilton to a 10-day contract. Hamilton, who has played for seven teams in his six seasons, averaged 2.3 points in 11 games this season with the Cavaliers, who signed him to a pair of 10-day contracts.

He averaged 3.7 points and 3.2 rebounds in 34 games for Philadelphia in 2003-04.

"One thing I think that Zendon will bring is toughness inside. He's not afraid to take a hard foul," Sixers president Billy King said. "He's a good rebounder and a good defensive player, and I think with this team that's what we need."

On Tuesday, the Hornets acquired Aaron Williams from Toronto for their other 2006 second-round pick and a 2009 second-rounder. Williams is expected to be in uniform for New Orleans' game against Chicago on Wednesday night.

The Hornets have two first-round picks in this year's draft, including one they received from Milwaukee when they swapped Jamaal Magloire for Desmond Mason in the preseason.

"We were able to get a young center that we feel is going to get much better and better, that's shown improvement," Scott said. "He had his best year in Phoenix playing the type of basketball that we play. And then we got a veteran in Aaron Williams. We've still got our first-round picks."

Unlike Williams, who played for Scott in New Jersey for more than three seasons, Hunter may take longer to fit in.

"There'll be an adjustment for Steven because this is an offense that he hasn't done," Scott said. "But again, once we get him in, we'll go over it every single day with him just to try to get him as comfortable as possible. ... I don't think it'll take him real long because one thing that we do a lot of is repetition on our offense."

water under the bridge now but i think it was a mistake for the Cavaliers to simply let Hunter go after they aquired him from Orlando.

I think that was part of the deal - not something Paxson just chose to do...

How many times do we gotta through this?

Part of the deal was Hunter was to be released immediately after the deal went through.

doesn't mean it wasn't a mistake, so lets go through it a couple more times.

If we dont agree to release Hunter, we dont have Gooden or Varejao!

Hunter returns to 76ers after trade falls through

February 10, 2006

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Center Steven Hunter returned to practice Friday with the 76ers, who tried to trade him nine days ago.

The New Orleans Hornets, who agreed to give up two second-round picks for Hunter, rescinded the trade Thursday because of medical concerns.

"I feel I have a point to prove," Hunter said. "There's a lot of doubters on me."

Hunter is averaging 4.9 points and 3.5 rebounds for the season. He started the first 13 games for the Sixers while Samuel Dalembert was injured, then struggled when forced to come off the bench.

Sixers coach Maurice Cheeks said Hunter was starting to come around at the time of the trade.

"I thought before we attempted to trade Steven, he had started grasping the way we want him to play," Cheeks said. "Rebounding, giving us energy, I thought he was doing that."

Cheeks said Hunter was welcomed back by his teammates.

"It seemed like he'd never left. He blended in, understood the plays we were doing," Cheeks said. "It didn't seem that awkward at all from our standpoint. Maybe from his it was."

Hunter said the difficult part was not knowing his fate for over a week, while doctors tried to resolve the conflict. The teams wouldn't discuss the problem, but Hunter said he thinks the Hornets' concerns were groundless.

"I was very surprised, because three months earlier our doctors passed me in the physical in order for me to sign my contract," said Hunter, who signed a five-year, $17.2 million deal in August. "I haven't missed a game or practice due to any injury since 2002. So I don't think anything's wrong with my bone structure, knees, joints or ankles. They just said I didn't pass the physical and rescinded the trade. But I feel fine."

Hunter is happy the situation is finally resolved.

"I had packed all my stuff. I had about eight bags in the airport. I put my house up for sale," Hunter said. "I did everything thinking I wouldn't be back here. For something like this to happen it was very, very stressful."

Any way we can sign another towel waver to a couple 10-day contracts for the stretch run? Zendon seems to have taken our heart along with his towel.
