City does a 180... Lebron banner approved and being installed now
It's unfortunate news, but we have been notified a few hours ago that our permit to display the banner has been denied by the Commissioner of Buildings for the City of Cleveland.
After going through approvals from other city officials it took one guy to shut down the operation.
What they have explained to us is that the material and the size used to create the banner is not of STATE requirements. The banner sits at 70x20 feet and is made of 3m vinyl material which is a Jetflex product. That product is also used on the same exact banner that you see on the Quicken Loans Arena, but they chose to deny ours at the last minute?
We have been scrambling around talking to lawyers and trying to get a hold of City officials to help us get this thing approved for the morning, but there is nothing we can do at this point. They gave us the news so late that everyone is impossible to get a hold of.
Our only miracle chance is that Mayor Frank Jackson steps in and overrides the Commissioner of Building's decision.
So with that said. The banner will not be placed tomorrow morning like scheduled.
What we now have to do is plea on Monday to try to get this banner up as soon as we can. The bad part of the plea is that it may take up to 2 weeks to get approved.
If there is anything anyone can do out there that can help us get this approved please let us know. You members are also welcomed to take actions upon your own hands to see if anything can happen.
WUJU and I will still be at Nick's Bar handing out replica posters and explaining to people why the banner isn't up.
Everyone is welcomed to come along and still watch the game if you want.
It's a big blow to us, but again the banner still has a chance to go up, it's just postponed for now.
I am deeply deeply sorry for the bad news, we did what we could. It just wasn't enough.Register | The Rule Book | Donate

Damn, that sucks.
Everyone could donate money to hire a hit man to get rid of Commissioner of Buildings? The most valuable skill in basketball is not the ability to convert difficult shots, but create easy ones.

Re: LeBron Banner DENIED by the City of Cleveland
NO WAY!
Screw the people "in charge" of Cleveland, as if they care about regulations or fire code or anything like that.
we've all come this far and you have put in way too much work!
Put that banner up anyway proudly. We'll donate more money to pay fines or bail you out if needed.
This is bullshit.

Minor set back. Just let us know what you need us to do Glen, and we've got your back.

Re: LeBron Banner DENIED by the City of Cleveland
LeBron better stay here, but the Commissioner of Buildings for the City of Cleveland needs to GTFO A.S.A.P. This is another example of how the local government in this area has been ruled by on destructive principles such as nepotism and the whole "play-to-pay" theory. They have refused to legitimately embrace public art and let the people of the city take a more active role in shaping it. They have taken what was a proud civic moment and turned it into another reason why our local officials are a joke.

Why would the Q banners be allowed but not yours?

Re: LeBron Banner DENIED by the City of Cleveland
Honestly Glen, the media has already been involved in this, I would phone them again and let them know of the setback. Right now the city of Cleveland will stall and stall and stall because that is what Cleveland officials do, but give them a little pressure and maybe there will be a work around.
Someone with some authority, or someone with connections will have to hear of this setback and figure out a way to overturn the decision without making you wait 2 weeks.
Tell WKYC that the city is denying you the usage of the same material that the Q uses. When the News gets word of that, they will make this building commissioner look like a complete fool.

Total horse shit.
I know you'll overcome this, the Cavs will just have to extend their playoff run to give you a little more time.

Re: LeBron Banner DENIED by the City of Cleveland
I still can't believe how one can't hang a banner temporarily on the side of a privately owned building. Unless of course there are stipulations I am not familiar with.
Frustrating as hell. You try to take the proper channels, and you get smacked down. Like getting a permit to finish a basement. Does everyone do it - hell no. But when you do it properly, all you get is headaches.

assuming this guy is an elected official, the next time he is up for re-election go straight to his opponent with this "do you really want to elect a guy that didnt want to keep lebron james in cleveland" only ad the guy will have to run.

Re: LeBron Banner DENIED by the City of Cleveland
That's completely fucked up. It seems kinda personal to deny it at the last minute, how can they give an excuse when its clear the banner at the Q is made of the same materials?

What total BS. I wish I could help Glen, I would start a march lol, but marching from Ontario would be quite the walk.
