Re: Vizquel Has an Outside Shot at 3,000 Hits
He's arguably the best fielder of all-time. There is no question he gets in. Period.

Points 2 and 3.
I actually thought that my avatar was the tin-man from the wizard of oz. After the game 5 debacle I thought i made it my avatar, but it was my profile picture instead. I had turned off all board images and avatars several years ago, as I primarily view the board on my phone. I would have changed the obama joker image a long long time ago if I realized i was still using it. There was at least 6-8 months I didn't visit here last year....too many Amare Safari type posts/run on threads.
It's actually pretty funny now that I look at what you guys were saying, and I thought you were talking about something totally different
SGM had to be like WTF?

Re: Vizquel Has an Outside Shot at 3,000 Hits
I'd be shocked if he didn't get in, but baseball writers are so fucking stupid and old school that even if he does get in, odds are he won't live to see it, especially considering his age.
Robbie Alomar, arguably the second baseman of all time didn't get in first ballot. Apparently what he does in the next year though will change the career he had?
The saddest part about this thread is I would have unquestionably rather seen Omar as our shortstop/3B for the better part of this past decade than that fat piece of shit Jhonny Peralta.

Re: Vizquel Has an Outside Shot at 3,000 Hits
Rings mean nothing in baseball...Which is what drives me nuts with so called "baseball purists"... Old men who look at numbers..
There is zero emphasis placed on winning unless you won "300" games as a pitcher....
Omar will get in down the road unless the criteria changes drastically...
Roberto Alomar got screwed IMO... Best 2nd baseman of all time and he has to wait.... His '99 and '01 seasons are unreal...

Re: Vizquel Has an Outside Shot at 3,000 Hits
Rings shouldn't mean as much in baseball as they do in football or basketball. One guy in baseball can't even come close to making as big an impact as one guy can in the other two sports.
I think Omar should get in based on his glove alone. The hitting is just gravy.

Re: Vizquel Has an Outside Shot at 3,000 Hits
Rings only mean something for QB's in football... Occasionally a RB may get dropped down a bit cause he never won a ring, but it's mainly a QB sticking point...
Winning is winning IMO.. I want to see the best players play on the big stage and see if they can win.. If they can't, they should get knocked..
That said, steroids or not, Barry Bonds' 2002 performance in the world series was legendary.. It was a treat to see him perform on that stage....

Re: Vizquel Has an Outside Shot at 3,000 Hits
So whatever came of the Robbie Alomar/Aids thing? Does he have it?
How about a quick simile: Watching the Browns from '99-'12 is like waiting for someone to finish shitting when you've gotta go piss real bad. Now imagine waiting on a 12 year shit...

Re: Vizquel Has an Outside Shot at 3,000 Hits
He will get in. His defensive wizardry combined with an adequate stick is enough. Don't discount that he is universally liked in the baseball community also. A lot of baseball writers are pricks and grudge carriers. Omar will dodge all that and will have the added bonus of having a lot of would-be HOFers getting snubbed because of the steroid saga.
As was mentioned earlier, rings really mean nothing outside of the NBA and a QB in the NFL.

Re: Vizquel Has an Outside Shot at 3,000 Hits
It still shocks me that Larry Doby needed the frickin Veterans Committee to get in. One of the most criminal acts by the sporting media in it's history. Can't count on them to do right by a Cleveland player, regardless of sport.
Also, Keith Law wrote a piece on espin insider about how Omar shouldn't make it. Anyone wanna post it? My guess is, he says, "Cause he played in Cleveland".....
