Re: Urban Meyer Just Asked Live About OSU
At first i was going to say were fucked.
But then i did some research. Jim Tressel went 2-9 his first year at Youngstown. And 7-5 his first year at tOSU. Take this for what It's worth.

Re: Urban Meyer Just Asked Live About OSU
Totally agree with you cm. The D is only going to get better as the year goes on. Also, people don't realize UM has to play at Iowa, at Illinois and home against Nebraska before they play OSU. In the meanwhile, OSU plays the cupcake part of their B1G schedule. Advantage: Buckeyes.

Re: Urban Meyer Just Asked Live About OSU
This is the only chance Michigan has to beat OSU in the next four years IMO.
I'd feel alot better if it was going down in the Shoe. But in Ann Arbor, with this team's struggles offensively.
Tough win. Got to make it happen though.

Re: Urban Meyer Just Asked Live About OSU
It's tough comparing Fickle's first year against Tress'
This is Fickle's first HC job. He didn't get a chance to work out the kinks in his gameplans/practices/handling of players at a lesser school like most coaches. Like Tress did at YSU. Fickle was thrown into mess with ineligible players at very important positions. Probably the best players on the roster, too. Plus he's following a coach that left earlier than everybody anticipated. Tress never set an heir apparent. Fickle wasn't the second in command. He wasn't being groomed to replace Tress like a lot of NCAA coaches get the chance to do."Most women are interested in me, because I have dimples and I'm Canadian."- Tristan "Clam Slapper" Thompson

Re: Urban Meyer Just Asked Live About OSU
From Day one, Fickle has been the placeholder of the job. His task is to helm the ship until OSU gets out of the NCAA investigation waters. After that time, then the team goes out and gets Urban Meyer. To me, the writing is on the wall- not only that Fickle is not in the U's longterm plans but that Urban Meyer really isn't going to find a better gig. When Meyer wants to come back and coach, the tOSU coaching job will magically open up. I have a feeling that occurs right when tOSU is completely out of the TattooGate mess. As for Fickle, he gets a great gig for his resume and recruiting ties for when he leaves here for his pick of low-rung DI schools to build his rep. Let's just hope that whoever is the tOSU AD by then doesn't hang him out to try like Smith did to Tressel and actually builds a support system around his coach to prevent the nonsense.

Urban Meyer, I have been told ..had issues with getting addicted to medications he was on.. He was riding the up and down rollercoasters. Ambien was mentioned.

Sleeping pills can easily become addictive. That's how Heath Ledger died, 1 works...now I need 2...and 3...ok I need 5 this isn't helping and before you know it he's dead.
I can just imagine him replaying scenarios, should I have called that, should I have done this, that...I wonder if so and so will sign, I wonder which way this kids leaning...I wonder if my wife is getting sick of this lifestyle etc...Official John Hughes Bandwagon!!!

Re: Urban Meyer Just Asked Live About OSU
Been there, done that. I'm in the process of writing a book, but, I remember well when it was seen the cocaine was "the perfect drug". Back in the late 70's, early 80's ..it was seen as an enhancer with no real downside. Some coaches looked the other way when they knew players were using, because they were doing the same. I rode that rollercoaster in my life .. Len Bias woke the world up though..to the reality.
Coaching is such a high demand, high emotion, long hour career. 30 years of my life flew by in a blink being caught in the whirlwind. It costs many marraiges, has lead to many addictions, and isn't the career for those that don't absolutely love it with all their heart and soul.
Many many many know exactly where Urban Meyer is, and has been.. weighing the love for his life and family vs. the costs and the toll it takes on his health and the wellbeing of his family. Coach K dealt with it for a period as well ..same things. I relate completely.Last edited by Wine and Gold; 10-20-2011 at 01:18 PM.
