Sam Amico echoing your thoughts. Don't know how "in the know" he is, but take this for what it's worth:
Sam Amico: Cavs' waiving of Thompson makes sense. Offers flexibility. And don't know this for sure, but I doubt move was made to call up Manny Harris.
    Something is brewing, I feel.

John Hollinger: Nothing about his tenure there makes any sense.

Cavs waive Mychel Thompson. Hearing that D-League call up is very likely. Signs pointing to Manny Harris with the Canton Charge.

If Manny is signed to the Cavs, he's about to see an extra '0' added at the end of his current salary.

I don't get putting him in there only to waive him a couple days later.

Either way, doesn't matter to me. Maybe this means we're about to pull of a trade. Or that Manny has seriously improved. We'll just have to wait and see.

This is a good move, once he clears waivers he can go down to Canton and play consistent minutes, there is not going to be a mad rush for teams to go and sign him off a D-League roster. Now was the time to make this move with contracts becoming guaranteed on Friday, seems a little interesting to make the move today instead of later in the week especially with AP still out, but I have to believe that the Cavs FO was feeling pressure to make a decision because the scouting of Manny Harris in the D-League has increased dramatically. I know for a fact, a high level NBA exec scouted him out in California on the last road trip and then flew to Canton to scout him over the weekend. Time was running out for the Cavs.

They had injuries, and probably figured that they'd throw MT the minutes for a final bit of due diligence before saying bye bye.

And since he likely confirmed what they already knew, they said PEACE!

Yea, the Cavs have a good setup down here, with Wes Wilcox on down, I think buying their own D League team was a very under rated move, and a luxury most teams do not have

Gibson ruled out for tomorrow in Miami, may speed up process with Manny or another 10 day contract candidate

I wonder how that talk went with Mychel Thompson:

"Look on the bright side, think of all the playing time you will be getting in the D League."

"But playing time is finally available at shooting guard with YOU guys."

"Yeah. Isn't that something? Hey, here's a Kyrie bobblehead! Take that with you. Okay, now get out of here before we call security."

Hey, it's isn't all bad. One day Mychel can tell his kids he got to start next to Kyrie Irving.
