Whether he said punk or coon it doesn't really matter.
He followed while armed with a gun because the kid was young and black. The racism involved is obvious.

Re: Trayvon Martin 911 Call From Neighbors and Zimmerman (Audio)
I don't disagree with anything you said here.
He was obviously biased and profiling. Whether it was because the victim was black or a youth, or both makes no difference. He decided he would take some vigilante justice against an innocent.
In this guys mind the kid was not innocent until proven guilty. Instead he was guilty. It's disgusting.

"Obama: "If I Had A Son, He'd Look Like Trayvon""
I liked this comment:
Let me preface this with the fact that I am a middle aged, gun owning, conservative white male.
This is a case where simple law is adequate.
Mr Zimmerman while acting as a "Neighborhood Watch" called a police dispatcher to report a suspisious person. At that time he was advised that police were on the way, and when he told the police dispatcher he was following the individual he had called about, he was advised not to do so.
At that point, Mr Zimmerman lost all potential of a "stand your ground" defense. He was acting in direct defiance to advice from law enforcement. He pursued young Trevon, initiated a confrontation with Trevon, and ultimately shot and killed him. When the poice arrived they found a young man dead, "armed" with an iced tea and a package of candy. He had been on the phone with a friend at the time of the shooting, telling her he was being chased by a stranger, and was in fear.
This was not self defense. Neither Mr Zimmerman or any other person were threatened by Trevon. Mr Zimmerman threatened Trevon. Then killed him. Mr Zimmerman followed Trevon with the intent to "apprehend" him. Trevon was violating no law, and was a guest of a resident of the community. The "stand your ground" defense does not apply in a situation where the shooter sought a confrontation. This is murder.

Re: Trayvon Martin 911 Call From Neighbors and Zimmerman (Audio)
Intent is the key, but manslaughter usually refers to a killing that was accidental. It's also used a a plead bargain sentence down from murder. There are different levels of murder though, muder 1 requires pre-meditation and planning. Following someone with a gun and shooting them isn't likely going to be considered manslaughter. I don't see how you can call it an accidental shooting, if anything this should be a hate crime. He racially profiled a black kid, followed him, then shot him dead because he assumed he was guilty of something.

Re: Trayvon Martin 911 Call From Neighbors and Zimmerman (Audio)
The fact that this Zimmerman character isn't cuffed and in prison already is so far beyond me.
Kids go to stores and buy snacks all over the country, Trayvon seems like he was doing what any normal kid would do. The danger here is the overzealous gun touting resident who could live on any street in any neighborhood. I hope the law doesn't get in the way of the right thing to do here.

So I guess we know who Asshole of the Week honors goes to.

Also, props to LeBron for organizing this. Finally showing an interest in something beyond himself.

Re: Trayvon Martin 911 Call From Neighbors and Zimmerman (Audio)
I know there are a few other guys on this board who live in Orlando/Central FLA, so they know how crazy it's been the past few years with high-profile criminal cases (Trayvon, Kaylee and Casey Anthony, etc). Orlando has turned into a nonstop Theater of the Absurd. This is just such a horrible horrible bunch of occurrences, that I couldn't come up with in my craziest thoughts!
Pretty sure the next step is to move the protests from Sanford (where the shooting took place), to the metropolitan Orlando area; especially with the case gaining more national attention.

Re: Trayvon Martin 911 Call From Neighbors and Zimmerman (Audio)
The protests were on my bball court btw. I'm out of town at the moment, but I'm usually there 2-3 times a week. Crazy.
Orlando sucks and Florida in generalHow about a quick simile: Watching the Browns from '99-'12 is like waiting for someone to finish shitting when you've gotta go piss real bad. Now imagine waiting on a 12 year shit...

Ya I'm 99 percent sure he said "punks", but it doesn't matter or change the fact that what he did was completely uncalled for.
