They are simply too emotionally invested in Trayvons side to want to believe anything coming from the Zimmerman side factual or not. They WANT him to fry. This is the first narrative to hit media shelves and they've attached themselves to it. As far as they are concerned it's too late now to turn back. They don't want to hear Zimmerman is Hispanic, a democrat, stepped up for the black community. They don't want to hear that he volunteered his time to keep their neighborhood safe and tutored black teenagers on the weekend. It's kind of hard to be a wanna be cop when he stood up to the cops. This doesn't fit their narrative.

Lastly, they don't want to hear that what Trayvon did wasn't right, that punching someone in the face is not the answer, that Trayvon was not doing so hot in school, that Trayvon comes from one of the worst neighborhoods in Miami. That he had stolen jewelry in his locker, that he swung on a bus driver. No, to them, this is normal "rebel" behavior. Sadly, violence and theft are behaviors not associated with rebel behavior and expose something deeper. Let's be honest with ourselves.

I don't want to see anyone fry. But I don't want to see anyone get away with a killing that could have been avoided. Sure maybe Trayvon made the wrong decision, and maybe he punched Zimmerman in the face and kicked his ass, and Zimmerman shot him. Fine. What I have a problem with is how it started. It's sad to me that a young black male walking down the street is a good reason to call 911. It's a good reason to get out of your car with a loaded weapon.

And if we are going by the law, is there a police report about the stolen jewelry? And a police report that he punched his bus driver? I did see a twitter post about the bus driver thing, and I know anything posted on twitter should be taken as fact. I think at the end of the day most people do not want to accept that people can do this legally. I don't want a zimmerman type on my street. Observe and report, let the real cops do the rest.

Zimmerman by following Trayvon put himself in that danger. So you mean to tell me that Zimmerman followed him into some yard behind a house and gave up before Trayvon attacked him yards away from his car?

Sorry, but the shooting happened FAR away from Zimmerman's vehicle. Fucker needs to be tried with manslaughter at the least. Period.
I agree my biggest point is Zimmerman should have never followed or attempted to locate after the cops were on the way.

They? Who is they? The things trayvon did were deplorable and as mentioned by myself and other posters Zimmerman may indeed have been defending himself.

Trayvons past comes into play if he was in the neighborhood to burglarize a home. He wasn't. Nothing that happened in the shooting would be consistent with any wrong doing of trayvon's in the past. Yea he swung on a bus driver supposedly. That's nowhere near this situation with Zimmerman.

Zimmerman painted Martin as a fucking punk, an asshole who always gets away, on drugs, carrying a weapon and up to no good just from seeing him walk down the street. On The Phone(documented). And this was before Martin ran because he was being followed by a suspicious man.

Had zimmerman ever at one point try to put himself in martins shoes for a moment he probably acts differently. But he already had his mind made up that this fucking drugged up black kid has a gun and is up to no good and I have to do something about it.

    Neighbor: Zimmerman stopped possible crime

    NEED TO KNOW
Trayvon Martin was shot and killed in Sanford, Florida, February 26
George Zimmerman's neighbor says there's been eight burglaries in their neighborhood

One of George Zimmerman's neighbors in Sanford, Florida, says a perfect storm of circumstances led to Trayvon Martin's shooting, including eight burglaries in the neighborhood in a little over a year.

Police say Martin was shot as he walked to his father's fiancée's house after going to the store for some Skittles and iced tea. Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch captain, told police he shot Martin in self-defense. Zimmerman has not been charged with a crime and remains free.

Frank Taaffe, a resident of the Retreat at Twin Lakes, told CNN's Soledad O'Brien Tuesday that he did not condone using lethal force in this situation. Taaffe also said that Zimmerman's efforts as a neighborhood watch captain helped stop a possible burglary in progress at his home on February 2.

HLN has confirmed that Sanford Police records show that Zimmerman did call police on February 2.

Zimmerman's complaint on the city's website from February 2 says, "Black male (leather jacket, black hat, printed PJ pants) keeps going to the residence which is owned by a white male. Black male subject in question was gone upon police arrival." The complaint also lists an address that matches Taaffee's residence.

Taaffe also claims that the eight burglaries in his neighborhood over a 13-month period have all been committed by black males. HLN has confirmed that Sanford Police reported eight burglaries in 395 days in the neighborhood. As a result, there are complaints against four black males. However, the remaining reports were for crimes with no witnesses and did not identify the suspects' race.

Taaffe's claims come after HLN affiliate WTVT interviewed another neighbor whose story about the events of February 26 is being told for the first time. He said Zimmerman suffered visible injuries to the back of his head -- a key assertion that has been vehemently challenged by Martin family supporters. "I saw George. He was banged up. His head had two big bandages, that weren't flat, had a bump on them," the neighbor, who did not want to be identified, told WTVT.

"I seen him have a big bandage on his nose and his nose swollen. On the side, where his eyes were at, it was swollen," he told the TV station.

Taaffe also told CNN that he saw on the tape that Zimmerman sustained injuries, and was treated by emergency responders.

Police released a new, higher-resolution surveillance video of the neighborhood watch volunteer being ushered into the police station the night of Martin's death. The sharper footage shows what is apparently a bump, mark or injury on Zimmerman's head more clearly than a previously released video, which had a grainy quality

Ok, I'll play. Here's how Florida's Stand Your Ground law reads:

Florida statute 776.013(3) says: (a) person who is not engaged in an unlawful activity and who is attacked in any other place where he or she has a right to be has no duty to retreat and has the right to stand his or her ground and meet force with force, including deadly force if he or she reasonably believes it is necessary to do so to prevent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another or to prevent the commission of a forcible felony.
Let's say you were the lawyer for Trayvon Martin's parents. Could you construct an argument where the Stand Your Ground law actually better applies to Trayvon and not Zimmerman?

Your idea is flawed. Zimmerman was not doing anything illegal, and as far as we know did not start the altication. Following someone is not illegal.

What does tort law have to do with the Zimmerman case unless Zimmerman or the cops are being suid? Enlighten what you are referring to oh master of not yet a lawyer but I know more than everyone on here.

I can see why you like Zimmerman. You both have taken some law/criminal justice classes and believe that makes you an experienced lawyer/police officer.

Stand your ground is criminal law, not tort law, and prosecutors in the case dont represent the victim or their family, but the state of Florida or the county. You hire a lawyer to sue in tort court, you dont hire the lawyer for the criminal trial. In fact, you might be surprised how little the victims have a say in a criminal case sometimes. Yes, i was a victim in a 2 week long criminal case and had very little contact with the lawyers.

According to the LAW in Florida he may not have to get a trial.
