Not defending McDaniels here but he inherited the first three items listed.....

Oh, I don't know, how about:

    Knowshon Moreno
    Demayrius Thomas
    Zane Beadles
    Eric Decker
    Getting (2) 1st round picks & a 3rd for Jay freaking Cutler

But nah, let's just concentrate on the bad.

So it seems like McDaniels knows football and talent pretty well but struggles with personal relationships. Maybe he has matured in that regard.

Thanks Joe Lull. Let's concentrate on the bad, like his record and tenure in Denver that left everyone there absolutely hating the guy.

So just to be clear, we fired Chud because the team got worse rather than improving as the season went on, despite a smattering of injuries and no support from the FO, but we're looking to bring in a HC candidate whose team's epic collapse in his first and second seasons is legendary. That's solid logic right there. I wish Banner and Haslam were at least capable of making up bullshit reasons that can seem to be consistent. When Shurmur was fired, we were told that, while two years might not be a large enough sample size to determine a coach's ability, Haslam and Banner were going to make sure to get the right guy and let the system grow under him. Then he's out 16 games later.

The rhetoric isn't even consistent, it's insulting how thin coated this crap is. It would be far more polite for these guys to go up to the podium and simply refuse to answer any questions Belicheck style rather than screw around trying espouse a vision they themselves can't even adhere to for two weeks. McDaniels failed hard in Denver in ways that made guys like Shurmur seem like a pretty decent coach. When the best defense of him is his ability to hit on some WR draft picks, it just doesn't hold water. We aren't bringing him in to pick guys out of college, it's pretty clear Banner and Lombardi are confident they can handle that end of the equation. We're bringing in McDaniels to rally these guys and build a team.

The NFL is a club, things are different than they were 20 years ago. Banner seems hell bent on recreating the Patriots style here in Cleveland, and that's very unfortunate. I'd rather Haslam was more hands on and took a page from the Rooneys, because the Steelers are arguably the gold standard for how to run a franchise in the NFL. Well, them and the Ravens. Everything the Patriots do is the wrong way of running a team, but the guy doing it happens to be one of the best and brightest minds in the NFL, and he has a disciple QB who buys in 100%. Without Belicheck, Brady and the recent successes, the entire system would collapse. The Browns have none of those three things, and McDaniels lacks the clout he thinks he has to recreate that system.

I'm sorry, but it's getting very hard to simply toe the line and repeat the mantra "There's always next year." We've managed to put 5 pro bowl players on this team, and yet you can't help but sense that the entire roster may need to be turned over yet again, as getting these guys to buy into a 3rd rebuild in 4 years is not likely going to be met with enthusiasm and strong commitment. It's been a year, and it already feels like this team was better off with Randy at the helm. At some point, a professional team needs to start acting professional. When the players are more eloquent and well spoken about the issues and challenges the team faces than the owner and the team president, there's a serious issue.

I'm just so sick of this shit.
I've been nothing but complementary of Weeden.

This FO is full of shady characters and adding McDaniels is just another shady character who lied to his players faces multiple times and caused nothing but drama during his tenure.

Can I actually bring myself to root for this team in the name of Cleveland, a city that prides itself on good honest hard work?

I can't, not if they bring in McDaniels. Do you know how ridiculous it sounds to hope that a former head coach has matured? I mean, we're not talking about Josh Gordon, we're talking about a head coach... Hell to the fuck no.

Why only concentrate on the bad when it's pretty clear he found some damn good talent..

And coaches aren't there to make friends. The majority of good coaches have been hard asses that are tough & have a tendency to have people hate them until they win.

Have we drafted more than 1 Pro-Bowler in the same draft since we've come back, like McDaniels did in 2010?

This is Cleveland. Failure is expected and so far, outside of the TRich trade, nothing happened this year to change that mentality.

Winning is the only thing that will ever change that mentality.

He keeps moving South. At this rate, he'll coach the Bengals in 2018.

In 2005, we drafted Winslow and got Cribbs as a UDFA.

In 2003 we drafted Faine (who was an alternate in NO) and Pontbriand
