Just when the night seemed like it was going to be another heartbreaking loss, the Cavs managed to pull through. For the goodness of Ohio sports this weekend, the Cavs at least helped finish the weekend on a high note. This really ended up being a game of runs, and halves. Both teams traded runs back and forth in the 1st half and with the Raptors leading at the break by 10 points. The Raptors managed to shoot 54% from the field in the 1st half, while the Cavs only managed 17 points in the 2Q. It's been covered (probably too much) in these columns about teams hot start out of the gate against the Cavs. I’m not sure if that’s the players not being ready, teams having a good initial game plan, some luck, or some combination of all three...
An uneven game led to an uneven result. The Cavs led after all three quarters but only outscored the Lakers in the first quarter. It never really felt like the Cavs had control at any one particular point in the game and they ended up falling victim to poor execution down the stretch which is a flashback to some games from last year. The big news tonight was getting Donovan Mitchell and Isaac Okoro back in the lineup to make it as close to a full team (minus Dean Wade and Ty Jerome) as they’ve had in a while. Of course prosperity could never last long for a Cavaliers team as Darius Garland went down after a drive in the 2nd quarter and did not return. He was diagnosed with a neck strain and we’ll see how much time he’ll end up missing...
A lot has been made about where the Cavs stack up amongst the NBA’s contenders. President of Basketball Operations Koby Altman made moves to get them closer but internal improvement of the young core is ultimately the driver of this ship. However, Damian Lillard being traded to Milwaukee; Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis being traded to Boston and Bradley Beal being dealt to Phoenix provided some obstacles for this young core to have to maneuver around to reach their end destination. But within that, one player holds the key to the Cavs future more than all the others: Evan Mobley. No pressure, right? The NBA is built on star power – always has been, always will be. For awhile, it required a dominant big such as Shaquille O’Neal...
With two days off for some turkey and home cooking after getting blown out by the Heat, the Cavaliers welcome LeBron and the Lakers to Cleveland. The Lakers are 9-7 and have won 6 of their last 8. The Cavs had won four in a row, including huge wins over Denver and Philadelphia (two of the four best teams in the NBA) before falling to red-hot Miami on the second night of a back-to-back. Donovan MItchell and Isaac Okoro participated in practice Friday so they could go tonight. With Caris LeVert having returned to the lineup last game the Cavs could be close to full strength with only Ty Jerome still being out. The Lakers are on a roll, having won six of eight with the losses to Dallas and Sacramento, two of the top six teams in the...

Coming off a short-handed, OT thrilling win in Philadelphia on the second night of a back-to-back with the visiting Miami Heat having last played on Monday, the Cavs figured to be a likely victim to a scheduling loss. Just not so sure some expected it to be a 33-point scheduling loss. The Cleveland Charge may have been healthier, more well rested and quite frankly a better challenge for the Miami Heat. If it’s any indication of how the night went, most of the 4th quarter was played by the Cavs (Championship) Summer League nucleus of Emoni Bates, CRAIG! Porter Jr, Isaiah Mobley and Sam Merrill. Down Donovan Mitchell, Ty Jerome, Isaac Okoro, Dean Wade and a minutes restricted Caris LeVert, CRAIG! Porter Jr got his first NBA start. As...
