RCF Recap: Cavs knock off Nets
If Cavs wanted to #LETEMKNOW, they certainly did tonight. On the second night of a back-to-back, the Cavs started out in neutral. However, when the second half hit, along with Jarrett Allen hitting the floor after a skirmish with Ben Simmons, the Cavs put it into gear. The result? A 23-point Cavalier victory. Donovan was DonovHIM early. He showed out with 10 points in the first four minutes including an assist. Mitchell was looking for his shot early, and found it. Brooklyn took an early timeout to stem the tide. The only person hotter than Mitchell in the first quarter might have been Dean Wade. He connected on three threes in 100 seconds of game time, and apparently dripped too hard because JB Bickerstaff subbed him out shortly...
Wham's Game Preview: Cavs @ Nets
Having escaped with a come from behind 4th quarter win against the 9-41 Wizards the Cavs catch a late flight to NYC for the second game of a back-to-back against the Brooklyn Nets. Last time these teams met they were in Paris and the Cavs emerged with a 111-102 win. The Cavs opened the season in Brooklyn with a 1-point win so this will be the 3rd meeting of these teams. The Nets started the season 15-15 but have since gone 5-15. They are 12-15 at home. In their last two games they lost at home to Dallas and Golden State by 11 and 12 points. However, the Nets are 3-3 in their last six and 2-1 since Ben Simmons returned from missing over two months with an injury. They won’t be pushovers, especially having yesterday off while the Cavs...
RCF Recap: Cavs fend off Wizards
If you’re a fan of MVP type performances, this is the game for you. If you’re a fan of good Cavaliers basketball, you may want to skip to the second half. What started as a bit of a bumpy first half, ended up with a Cavalier victory, and one of the NBA’s best players playing like it. Game 49 is quite the time for Jarrett Allen to take a three-pointer, particularly the first shot of the game. It was a spot-up look and one he should look to take more often, just unsuspecting for the first shot of the game when he hasn’t taken one all year. The Wizards got off to a quick start offensively with 15 points in the first four minutes, including three three-pointers within a minute of play, which led to a Cavaliers timeout. That also included...
Wham's Game Preview: Cavs vs Wizards
After an impressive win at home against the Kings the Cavaliers hit the road to face the 9-40 Washington Wizards, who are 3-21 at home. Eight of the Wizards’ nine wins this season have come against teams with losing records; the only exception was a fluke win over Indiana two months ago. In two previous meetings the Cavs won 140-101 and 114-90. Since the last game against Clevland the Wizards are 2-12. The Wizards are about average at scoring, ranking 18th in points per game. Surprisingly they rank 2nd in points in the paint and 3rd in fast break points. They rank 6th in field goal attempts per game and lead the NBA in pace. Nobody plays faster. The Wizards are 20th in 3-point rate and 27th in 3-point percentage. They don’t get to...
RCF Recap: Cavs down the Kings
Whew. Take a deep breath after that one. If this game was a movie, it might have been Fast & Furious (but one of the earlier ones with Paul Walker, not the new age version). A whole lot of speed, a whole lot of action, some muscle and definitely some theatrics. The Kings have historically given the Cavs trouble and while they put up a fight, the Cavs were the ones last standing when the bell rang. First of all, get that man Jarrett Allen an ice bath. There may not be a stronger pound-for-pound player than Domantas Sabonis, and for every shoulder into the chest Allen took, he never relented. How were the Cavs? They tied their season high three-point makes total with 23 on the night. Even more impressive, they did so with two non-shooting...
Wham's Game Preview: Cavs vs Kings
Still on a roll the Cavs return home for the second and final game against the 29-19 Sacramento Kings, who will be playing the last game of a long road trip. The Kings are 15-11 away from Sacramento and will be playing their seventh game in ten days, all on the road. Hopefully the Kings will be exhausted and their minds will be on getting home. The Kings have won 6 of their last 7 and are injury free and playing well. Their point differential is just +0.2 in non-garbage time according to cleaningtheglass.com. This would normally equate to a 24-24 record, but the Kings have 29 wins, which leads the NBA in wins over expectation. I assumed this means they’re good at winning the close games, however, they are just 6-5 in games decided by...
RCF Recap: Cavs wrangle Spurs
Cavs go into San Antonio and take the Spurs for a ride which is only fitting since this is the last home game for the Spurs before they head out for their annual rodeo roadtrip. Victor Wembanyama is the big name, and big figure, but the Cavs bigs came out on top tonight. Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen each had a double-double and combined for 54 points and 26 rebounds – that’s half the Spurs point total for the night. The bigs started the game hot, and lead the way for a Cavalier victory Speaking of which: The Cavs first 12 points were all within the paint with Mobley and Allen having 10. They challenged Wemby early and often and were not deterred by his length one bit. The Cavs were taking what the Spurs were giving them which was...
Wham's Game Preview: Cavs @ Spurs
Winners of 12 of their last 13 and 17 of 21, the Cavs finish their season series against San Antonio with a road game against the 10-39 Spurs, who are 5-20 at home. These teams met in Cleveland a month ago and the Cavs emerged with a hard fought 117-115 win. The Cavs were up by 13 with 2:42 to go but Pops dialed up a surprise full court press that discombobulated the Cavs, resulting in an 11-0 Spurs run to close the game. The Cavs hung on for the 2-point win. The Cavs seem to play their best against the strongest teams and play down to the competition against weak teams, which we just saw in close wins over Detroit and Memphis. The Spurs, like the Pistons, have been playing better lately, winning 3 of their last 8 games and losing by...
Trade Deadline Preview: What Can Koby Cook Up?
The NBA Trade Deadline is under one week away – Thursday, February 8. As the buzzer rings at 3 p.m. (ET), rosters will be final sans buyout players becoming available. The Cavs are approximately $3 million under the luxury tax threshold, and still have ~$3 million available in their non-taxpayer mid-level exception and ~$2 million from their bi-annual exception. Depending on how the deadline shakes out, the Cavs could be active on the buyout market – like targeting Danny Green last year. Although, the mid-level exception may be used on a CRAIG! Porter Jr multi-year deal which has been a staple during Cavs President of Basketball Operations Koby Altman’s tenure -- converting young, undrafted players to late season cost effective...

Thread 'RCF'S Cavs Guide To The Offseason'
Welcome to the NBA offseason, home of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and Aprons. The offseason will be defined by what the Cavaliers can and can’t do all thanks to the CBA. NBA reporter Shams Charania recently said the offseason could be the “craziest ever.” Along with that may come the most complicated offseason ever. The Cavs are entering a new era of cap management as they are set to enter the NBA’s 2nd Apron – a spending threshold with the most restrictive roster building...
