Was this intentional?
:chuckles:
Was this intentional?
1) What school did you graduate from?
2) To what degree do you cheer/not cheer for Ohio State?
3) Why or why don't you?
Three questions for everyone:
1) What school did you graduate from?
2) To what degree do you cheer/not cheer for Ohio State?
3) Why or why don't you?
I don't think I fit into this thread very well either.
1. Went to University of South Carolina in Sumter for a year. Currently attending BGSU.
2. Couldn't care less about Ohio State
3. Ohio State has always just been there to me and kind of irrelevant. I'm a Cleveland sports fan because of my family, but no one in my family gives a rats ass about college sports at all. I grew up in South Carolina, so I became a Gamecocks fan in elementary school.
Although I will say this, it is fun (and far too easy) to piss off Ohio State fans. Just say that the SEC is better at football and you are in for a 5-10 minute rant. :chuckles:
1) What school did you graduate from?
Miami University.
2) To what degree do you cheer/not cheer for Ohio State?
Very big OSU fan. Always have been.
3) Why or why don't you?
My family has been a bunch of OSU fans since my inception. I grew up rooting for the Buckeyes, I root for the state of Ohio and I don't see a reason to take issue with one thing that can unite the entire state. I believe those from Ohio who dislike Ohio State are arrogant and I wouldn't get along with those types of people. I root for Miami over OSU, but they're not in the same class when it comes to sports. People from Canton might like the Charge, but they're Cavaliers fans. Hating OSU because of a different affiliation is like saying that people from Akron should like the Charge more than the Cavs. Immature, if you ask me.
1) What school did you graduate from?
One more year at THE Kent State U
2) To what degree do you cheer/not cheer for Ohio State?
The same as I would cheer for the Browns, Indians,Cavs. A lot. I also root for Kent's baseball and basketball team. Our football team hasn't won a game since 1971.
3) Why or why don't you?
Grew up watching the Buckeyes. I don't see why you can't root for both teams.
1) What school did you graduate from?
I graduated and am a graduate student at the University of Cincinnati.
2) To what degree do you cheer/not cheer for Ohio State?
I openly root against OSU.
3) Why or why don't you?
Before I state my opinion here, I will say that I do not disrespect any fan that roots for their alma mater. I respect them greatly. I am sure all of you OSU alumns are great members of the OSU fanbase.
That being said, I openly root against OSU, because of the portions of the fanbase I usually come in contact with.
1) It absolutely disgusts me how students at UC can openly hate on UC and root for OSU. You are supposed to take pride in your college, both the academics and athletics.
2) I hate how those who have zero affiliation with OSU 'bleed scarlet and grey'. It makes no sense. I can understand if you live in Columbus and go to the games and such... but those fans that have never been to OSU, never been to an OSU game seem to be the stupidest fans I have ever met. Straight up front runners. And I am a hater because I point out this fact.
And most importantly:
3) I have traveled around to many different colleges going to away games and such. After I park and toss around a round of beers to the locals to illustrate I am looking to have a good time enjoying a sporting event and I am not an asshole... every fanbase has been extremely welcoming and hospitable. Sure there is some trash talking, but coupled with respect and very informative discussions about both of our programs. I went to OSU when UC played them in 06. If there were respectful OSU fans on campus, they were avoiding me. Everyone was extremely and openly rude and everyone else cheered when they were. I had a beer spilled over my head by some drunk douche bag... and trust me, I was not being an asshole. The only reason he did it was because I was wearing UC garb.
So in short, I have had bad experiences at OSU. Perhaps if I was in a different area that day and stumbled upon a good set of fans my opinion may have been steered in a different direction. I do wish OSU would play UC more often. I would love to play against a high caliber opponent yearly where the away game is extremely close.
So you're making up the rules for fan hood?
I grew up an Ohio State fan and don't have the resources to pay for tuition and a dorm there. Hopefully they never play Cleveland State in football...
Ohio State has simply refused to do that, haven't they? Especially in basketball. I know with 100% certainty that Akron has been trying to play Ohio State for years, even offering a 4-for-1, with Akron's "home" game being at Quicken Loans Arena, and they still said no. I think they've scheduled Cincinnati once in the 50 years, even with the Bearcats openly wanting to do so. Personally, I love when Akron plays Cleveland State, Kent State, Ohio U, Dayton, etc - the better in-state teams - and I think the fans do as well.
We had a home and home with OSU. We played a really exciting close game in 2006 at OSU. But the return game was bought out because OSU didn't feel like playing us at Nippert. I guess I can't fault the AD for accepting as our athletic budget is small and we could use the money. Then it was delayed to 2012. Now I don't think they are going to play it because of all the realignment shit. Oh well. I was really looking forward to it.
I know a big reason OSU doesn't want to play UC is because OSU controls the state for recruiting without really having to do much of anything. Playing UC can only hurt OSU because if they win... well they should have won, and if they lose... well then that looks very bad. Especially when it comes to potential recruits, and especially those in the Cincinnati area. A rivalry with us would just have the potential to hurt them too much. And I am not speculating here. This is what I heard from a source I know in UC's athletic department.
I'm saying that I believe that a person should cheer for the school they attended...I'm not sure how my opinion is an attempt at "making up the rules for fan hood"...but OK.
