I half seriously said i wanted a wok while we were strolling through Bed, Bath and Beyond...so my wife got me one for Christmas. It's never been used and now she's giving me grief. Anyone have any killer recipes that are also easy?
Buy some sesame oil, some sesame seeds, and soy sauce. Go with a three dollar bag of brown rice as well. These are the staples for making pretty much anything with the wok.
Buy fresh ginger, a head of fresh garlic, and fresh green onions.
Now buy pretty much any kind of meat and pretty much any kind of vegetables.
*EDIT* when cooking in an Asian style, you chop everything up into bite sized chunks or strips. Whichever protein or veggie you pick, pretend you bought your dish at a Chinese restaurant when chopping.
Put one and a half cups of water in a pot with a firm sealing lid. Once its boiling add one cup of brown rice. Turn the stove top down to low, cover and forget about it for a half hour.
Start with two tablespoons of sesame oil in a hot wok. Chop up a clove or two of garlic, the white part of the green onion, and an inch of the garlic root.
*EDIT* cook these in the hot sesame oil until they are a little translucent. If it burns, start over. Classy folk peel the ginger, but its not that important. After one minute, add the meat until its brown. Then, add the veggies, stirring with a wooden spoon like a madman until the veggies are cooked through.
Top it with the green part of the onion, some glugs of soy sauce, and sesame seeds. Open up your brown rice lid and let it cool for a few minutes. You just made pretty much every Asian cuisine ever, congratulations.
