Updated the bracket. Thoughts?

Some huge news out of Akron. Their point guard, Alex Abreu, was arrested on marijuana trafficking charges

bahahaha, what an idiot.

Akron just ruined their program, going to take a major turn around to hide that blemish.

I think they can still go dancing without him. He was a key piece, but that team has no stars. They're a complete team.

Im really curious to see what KD does with the point. Start Betancourt? Start McAdams, Walsh, Guilliam? Ill have a much more confident opinion on what they can do after tomorrow.

I'm not a fan of Akron, in fact I consider them OU's rival in basketball. I remember when Bubba Walter fliped us off in the O-Zone after a win. What's funny is he eventually joined the Bobcats the year after.

Personally I consider them our number one rival. Miami hasn't been relevant since the Pollock brothers.

However, all they need is one of those guys to get hot and the game could easily be Akron's.

Well said. Looking forward to a possible rematch with you guys at the Q (hopefully with us coming out ahead this time). I admittedly dislike OU, but respect them.

and you claim to be a fan

I def root for them. But Dambrot is a guy that was kicked out of college basketball for a long time, and now he is dealing with 5? arrested players in the last two years, with two of those guys getting kicked off the program for their actions. How many parents want to send a kid to a guy like that? Granted, he is well respected by his peers but get a handle on your program...you are supposed to be like a parent to these kids and one is beating women up and the other is pushing 5lbs of weed.

Not a good look at all.

Whats the problem if he kicks the idiots off of the team? Diggs didnt even deserve to be kicked off, he was never charged. Everybody knows what happened at CMU was a misunderstanding, although it still wasnt right. It was a mistake. Thats it. I believe he still tells the story to his players as an example that what you have can be gone just like that.

I can only think of Abreu, Diggs, and Treadwell being in any kind of legal trouble the past 2 seasons.

Josh Cribbs was arrested and charged with a felony trafficking charge and is now featured on Kent State commercials. Just sayin'.

Teams all over the country deal with off-court issues like these. We've seen it at Kent far worse than Akron and Kent's doing just fine as a program.

By the way, you're statement that "one is beating women up" shows you either don't know the facts or have a clear disregard for them.

If a kid messes up, is it automatically the parent's fault? If you believe that, I'd guess you don't have/never had teenagers. Even the best parent can't avoid their kid screwing up from time to time. What a good parent does is makes sure their kid learns from the screw-up, stands behind them, and does everything they can to make sure that kid doesn't screw up again.

Keith Dambrot built a team that was good enough to reach the Sweet 16, maybe further. He lost Quincy Diggs before the season started. He lost Alex Abreu one week before the tournament. Those dreams are now long gone, and the MAC Title is now is doubt. Many would have just moved on and wished their best to those kids. Dambrot helped Diggs get out there and find a job. He still maintains contact with him to make sure he's staying on the straight and narrow. He said yesterday on the radio that he's going to do everything he can to help Alex get his life back on track. He said even when our kids mess up, we don't turn our backs on them or abandon them.

As Pick6 said, it's how he reacts to these issues that is important. As a parent myself, Keith Dambrot's care for his kids both on and off the court, through thick and thin, would impress the heck out of me. I'd want a coach that cares about molding young people as much as he does winning basketball games. I'm extremely proud that Coach Dambrot represents my alma mater.

Regarding Abreu, I think you all need to wait until the facts come out. I'm pretty well connected to a few people around the basketball program at Akron and, from what they've heard, the police have known about Abreu's trafficking for months. They were slowly building a case that is airtight and this last 5lb shipment was the final piece.
