Hello everybody. There are a few things that are concerning me of late which is bringing this young growing forum down a notch. Infante brought this board together, to have a nicely presented forum for Cavalier fans to discuss the in and outs of their favorite basketball team. Unfortunately, a growing number of members have disrespected this, and in turn, making this forum a bit of a laughing stock amongst the serious Cavalier fans.

I have many fellow Cavalier fans who I speak to over the net who call other forums home, basically call our forum child's play. Sitting back and reading through the threads and I 100% agree with their perception. Posters here have taken this forum into some sort of chat room, where the basic objective is either to "own" someone or be the most witty. There are times when humor is a good backdrop to a post, but when the majority become more for entertainment and less for the boards good, then unfortunately Infantes hopes for a great Cavalier board are lost.

I understand alot of you like to fool around some, thats fine. Just leave that stuff for Eayor, whether it Cavs stuff or not. No one should go into the Cavaliers forum looking for a laugh. That can be a little bonus occasionally, but shouldn't be anyone's mindset. The Cavaliers forum is to discuss Cavalier issues. That to me doesn't come across as a time to joke.

Visitors are now coming here and getting a drift to the atmosphere of this forum. They see a forum where its all good to take the piss out of other members. They see a forum where it is ok to not discuss the subject at hand. This is why the majority of new members will be people who will continue this rot, and not right this ship. Why would a serious Cavalier fan who wants to talk Cavs post here? I am finding fewer reasons to come back here.

I am loyal to this board though and I hope most of you guys are too. If you are, you should feel partly responsible to getting this board moving forward and be the the best source of Cavalier discussion. I hope we can all take small steps to make this board great and realize that there are boundaries that have been set so that everyone can enjoy this place.

Was thinking about an affiliation with this site but after reading this I will have to give it a little while before I request it. Although I am glad an administrator would step up and do something like this.

nlsmike, welcome. I just wanted to take a second and point out that the date of this post is over two years ago. We have since lifted our game. We are certainly not perfect, but (in my admittedly biased opinion) we are now the premier place to discuss Cavs basketball. Unfortunately, Cavalier fans have had an exceedingly slow summer, so the activity in our Cavs Talk forum is not at peak levels right now (either in quantity or quality), but it will bounce back to form when the season starts in a few weeks.

We keep this thread as a sticky, as it's a good reminder of where we want to stay.

Having said that, take your time and check out the site. Enjoy!

I, like many others, have been to every Cavs site I can find on the web.

RCF has by far the most knowledgeable posters that are able to state their opinion eloquently. There is rarely any riff-raff that needs to be dug through.

If I recall correctly, that post was written because there was an exodus from another Cavs board that brought some posters that felt the need to post without offering any insight, in an effort to boost their post count. We all know the number of posts one has does not make that person more qualified.

Therefore, and rightfully so, Karma felt it necessary to lay the ground rules.

Note: Don't mean to speak for you Karma - I may be wrong on the reasoning for your post. That is how I recalled it though.

I'm sure he'll be here soon enough to clarify or discuss with you via PM.

Welcome to RCF, and I hope you enjoy your stay!

It does seem a bit funny how the original post in this thread can be partially applied to the current state of some of the Cavs Talk threads. I think this is in large part due to the influx of new members based on word of mouth on the POSITIVE information and insight this site provides.

I assume that along with this influx, and the percentage of new members that may not be "message board savvy", coupled with the excitement and magnitude of this off-season in Free Agency and the trade market, we are left with 1000's of posts that are based on anticipation of what the Cavaliers organization is doing/may do. This in turn has lead to a return to what the originator of the thread was referring to.

However, I think it is safe to say, now that the amount of "player X watch 2009" threads have cooled, the site is starting to return to the state that made me want to be a part of it in the first place. The state I'm referring to is "quality". I continue to be very pleased with what these forums and what many of the posters have to offer. I think it goes without saying that there are an incredible amount of intelligent posters on this site and even when some may get off-topic in Cavs threads, I can still come away from reading these threads satisfied with what is taking place here.

I waited nearly a year since becoming a member on this site to post. This was mainly due to the fact that the members of this site have so much insight, that I rarely felt the need to add to their points whether I agreed with them or not.

People like W/G, Glen, Maximus, Randolph Keyes, and many others make this site far and away better than any other forum I've read. (Even in what some consider a low point for the forum). I hope when all the dust settles on this off-season, and my/our excitement about personnel moves subsides, I can contribute on the level as those listed above.

All in all, I can say with confidence that this site remains strong, and with the rapid growth of members, it will become the biggest and best nba message board on the internet. Glad to be a part of it.

And on one final note. I used to regularly visit cavs.com before it turned into cavfanatic. I think it goes without saying that the state of those forums is exactly what worries some of the posters on this site with the amount of new members. But, I'm not worried...at all....about this site becoming what is going on over there. It is my firm belief that those who can't contribute on a constructive level will either weed themselves out, or just keep quiet. I think even the most ignorant poster will find that they won't survive here if they come with the rubbish that many add over there at the corporate message boards. (cavfanatic)

Keep up the good work realcavsfans.com!

This post resurfacing makes me happy. I believe (tell me if I'm wrong Karma and Glen) but the recruitment of my old site was the one who caused this original post: we called RCF out, and OBVIOUSLY RCF stepped up their game to the point that I did end up making the switch.

The issue we now face has happened many times in the past, and it will happen again. Just understand that moderators do not ask new posters to step it up to be a bunch of pricks... we do it because we know that new members are capable of improving.

I look at the names of the posters who started threads on the main page, and I think I recognize 3 of them.

Maybe I'm getting old.

Looks who's talking...

I leave for a week and new names sprout up and get mod privileges right away, wtf!

Nomar Garciaparra was a horrible player, who only would've been worse if he had played for the New York Yankees

What was your old site, RK?

Check my profile. The owners just paid for the domain name again recently after a three year hiatus, but I've only posted twice in the past two years. I'm an RCF man, but the years I spent with those guys were very special: they would email if I didn't write for a few days to make sure I was okay, they let me kick their asses in fantasy basketball year after year, and we even traded music through the U.S. mail before torrents were around.

There are still a bunch of very knowledgable veteran Cav fans who hang out there, they just don't like inviting a lot of new members.

Hopefully, they don't give me hell for mentioning that. :)

Admirable post but can't say that I agree with this part. The humor is a big part of what I love about this site and don't think it should be limited to Off Topic.

There is a bunch that can be said when forums sprout up about one particular topic; IE Cleveland sports or Cavs in general. You have people of all types out there; new to the net, new to discussion forums, new to 'your' forums. People may be a member at a place like Cavfanatic, get depressed about it, then travel over to this place which is a much different forums. Different in so many ways. You have to understand that a place like this will only see a rise in new members coming from other forums just because of the nature of the internet in general. More new people get connected. They are exposed to cavfanatic mainly because it's on the main Cavs website and advertised in a big way on TV, etc. Many of them will eventually find this place, with the more knowledgeable sticking right in here. They can and will improve. It's like night and day.

Those new people we might see starting threads that are not the most enlightening, etc could be the same people I'm referring to.... they come from other places of not so high quality members. Maybe the powers that be in here should hold a closed meeting in the staff room about starting new threads? It's not an easy subject but something to consider. It could even go so far as installing a plug-in that only allows the moderation of a member individually when the staff deems them worthy to start threads in "Cavs Talk". Do you see? Many threads started in there are by either new people who came from elsewhere, or by people who may never be able to start good threads in there. It can't be a post count thing as that is not a good indicator of a quality member either. I just think since this place is growing daily, and has many who are lurking now while not being a member as of yet, that one way to limit the numbers of bad new threads in Cavs talk is to address/discuss the problem in private to see what you might come up with. You have to also understand that it might not be a new member who is not quality, but simply a member who was exposed to another place with not real good quality anyway. :)

Nostrakarmus preaching truth. I know I'm not the best poster, heck, I've said some extremely dumb stuff. But the quality of individual posts and threads have gone down considerably since the Cavs became a popular team (but more so now than around 2007).

For every 1 good new poster, there are around 100 new members that make the forum a hostile or annoying environment for the veteran or more experienced members. I'm sick of reading who twat what and how trading our whole bench for one mildly productive power forward would make our team better.

I vote for a 3 strike system.
